Black Mesa Mods

Javid, that statement coming from a soldier is particularly disturbing O_o

Anyway - a couple of ideas for a possible Counterstrike: Black Mesa:

All maps would represent parts of the Black Mesa Compound.

In the Hostage maps, the counterterrorists play as the BM Security Force, trying to rescue Scientists from HECU Marines.

In the Defusion Maps, the counterterrorists play as HECU Marines trying to prevent Black Ops from blowing up a tactical nuke warhead.

The VIP maps feature Security Forces again, escorting a scientist in an HEV suit to a Xen Portal (mapping based on Lambda complex design), and Black Ops trying to stop them.

Weapons would be based on those from Black Mesa and Opposing Force, including the HD variants as standalone versions with different firepower and accuracy.

Weaponry:

Pistols would include a Glock, Beretta, Magnum and Deagle.

Primary weapons could be the MP5, M4 (more firepower, more accuracy), SPAS-12 shotgun, M249 (from Op4), or crossbow and M24 (from Op4) for snipers. Melee weapons would either be a crowbar (for security forces) or combat knife (for military forces).

Grenades would be the same as in Counterstrike.

Additional weapons could be incorporated for more variety, but I don’t think they’d be needed. The game would be pretty fun all the same. I think in Counterstrike: Source, most players also tend to use Mp5, M4 or M249 most of the time. But I could be mistaken, it has been a while since I played it.

I think the point is that the devs don’t want anyone passing work off as their own, but if they were to allow some level of credited use then that would make it seem (to people not paying attention enough or caring) that anything was free game, hence the overall blanket ban on use of their stuff which is much easier to tell people.

It’s also entirely possible that all the various devs would have different personal opinions on the matter of their own content (some might not want their stuff used anywhere at all, some wouldn’t mind as long as they got credit, some might not care at all) that it would become really complicated to enforce different rules for different parts of BM content, so it’s again simpler to just set one overall rule for the mod as a whole.

Then again there’s another point as well. Instead of pretending that the work was someone else’s, if it was allowed to be used some of it might be used in something that was illegal or obscene or simply very poor quality (other than the BM portion, obviously  ), in which case the devs wouldn’t want their names attached to it as people might associate them with it and tarnish their reputation because they see the devs’ credits on it.

So now that’s it’s been explained about as thoroughly as is humanly possible, I think, I’m making this the final word on the topic. [COLOR=‘Red’]No use outside of BM for any BM content. (Obviously derivative works based on BM like trailer videos made with footage from it, or mods and levels made to be used in it are another matter.)

[COLOR=‘Red’]On which note, back on topic.

First thing I thought when I saw this thread?

Yo dawg I herd you liek black meas, so we put a mod in your mod, so you can play while you play.

Collision, that joke was already made. It gets no funnier by repetition, you know…

so , just to be sure ,its ok to create a mod of black mesa that requires black mesa to be installed ?

Yes. Raminator said earlier that they’re including an fgd file for the mod, which means you’ll be able to load up the SDK, set it to “Black Mesa,” and go to town. Since these maps will use Black Mesa content, they will require that Black Mesa be installed.

This is epic material. If there was a pyramid of human knowledge and wisdom this would definitely be in it.

And what if a pyro has been hired by Black Mesa to protect the Anti-mass Spectrometer ever thought of that? And the pyro is actually computer from Portal??

Do you think I care?

[COLOR=‘White’]If you cant answer that yourself, the answer is no.

one last note on off-topic just to explain and then i go back to topic.
i have freaking understood it after the first reply. i just said that the devs aren’t always clear in what they wan’t and don’t wan’t or what os the thruth or not.

with that out, a fun thought. what would happen if someone tried to place the entire bm folder inside the smod folder and tried to run it?

Which is why I just clarified it for you.

you only need to say it one time. only makes you sound annoying when you do it 2 times AFTER iv’e said that i know it

I meant that I clarified why you thought the devs were saying different things. [COLOR=‘Red’]Now STFU whining and get on topic before I give you an infraction for derailing the thread.

  1. your’e keeping a conversation up and infractions aren’t so scary as you seem to think they are for users but i’l get back on topic if u wan’t it so much.
  2. black mesa: fun mod. basicaly, a mod that gives u crazy physics and crazy weapons to make ppl go crazy
  1. Raw_bean’s bout t’choke-a-bitch.
  2. Use cvars.

^^

  1. I hope he bans your ass for good. Its well overdue.

  2. Smod would be awsome. and expected.

Yes, this, basically. Minimods and custom content designed for use in BM will be acceptable; ripping our content without permission to use in your own separate mod or elsewhere will be unacceptable.

No, he’s doing his job as a moderator…you’re keeping the conversation going by posting pointless replies and being a twat. If I was a moderator you would be banned just for posting this shit.

Black Mesa: Smod would be possible actually, but only if BM is released via Steam instead of a website download.

Hell, even I could make it, but it’d use the default Black Mesa backgrounds, icons, etc. unless I had someone help me make them. I can’t use hammer for shit >.<

who would do something for shit?

Well, backgrounds, maybe but shhhhh

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
