Black Mesa Mods

Just a little discussion to see what people think modders should do to Black Mesa once it’s out.

Black Mesa: SMOD = self-explanitory epicness
Synergy-Coop-Update-Thing (If Coop isn’t added, the Synergy Team should so make a patch for Black Mesa Source, with all the weapons, NPC’s, and maps.
Black Mesa: CTF = Self-explainitory, like the Half-Life 2 CTF
Black Mesa: Enhanced = Iron-Sights, tactical AI, sort of a SMOD Tactical approach.
Black Mesa: Multiplayer = A multiplayer mod which there are various gamemodes, like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch (Teams of Aliens, Military, and Black Mesa Personnel, and other gamemodes involving these teams.
Garry updates Garry’s Mod to have Black Mesa content (doubt it) for Black Mesa RP, would be epicccc.

Anyway, rate, tell your ideas, discuss.

Just so everyone knows, I’m not saying the Devs should work on these, by no means am I ever going to say that, nor have I ever tried. I’m saying community modders should, and some of the larger modders like the Synergy Team and SMOD.

Counter Strike: Black Mesa Edition

There will already be DM and TDM, plus it’s not too far fetched to predict CTF.

SMOD would be cool though, but only to play after you’d finished the game a few times properly, otherwise it ruins it.

Only other good mod idea i can think of is a BM/Source version of the Strangelove mod.

I know, but I meant like a Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch with a Xen team, a Marine Team, and a Black Mesa Personnel team. I know there’s already a Deathmatch and TDM.

SMOD should only be played after, I agree, it’ll ruin it if you do SMOD first.

They’ve already said they’re not doing CTF, and I’m not sure about TDM.
My question is how exactly do you plan on modding black mesa? I mean sure, you can make maps and custom servers, but the buck pretty much stops there.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought it was kind of stupid to ask if people are going to mod a mod. However, now that I think about it a Black Mesa version of SMOD would be pretty cool.

Devs have stated on several occasions that Black Mesa content won’t be made available to the public, which narrows the possibilities for modding it.

aww you ruined the fun

That’s unfortunate. Why is that exactly, is it just to stop plagiarism?

Black Mesa: Suggestion Box edition. Where all the suggestions from the “It’s all in the detail” thread are implemented. Including the conflicting ones. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m definitely making some maps. I love mapping in Hammer. Gargantua Hunt Source anyone?

I plan to make some multiplayer Xen maps… upon completion of the game, that is.

Just before the crash there was a really good thread discussing a gametype that involved a team, consisting of scientists (supplemented by security guards) trying to escape various parts of the Facility (and finally of course, the Facility itself) while the other team, consisting of HECU are attempting to take out the opposing team.

Some really good ideas got thrown around in that thread.

I can has BMDM:WC3 mod?

I remember that one! Sounded like a whole truckload of fun.
I doubt we’re gonna see it happen tho…

I would rather see the opposite. A team of scientists trying to keep a single marine from escaping a maze of death traps! Taunting him every step of the way like the computer in Portal.

And no, I didn’t steal this idea from Portal. I posted it in the Gamespy forums close to eight years ago, well before Portal was ever announced.

What? Does that mean that nothing will be extractable? I even won’t be able to extract the soundtrack or some voices takes with GCFScape?

Actually, I mentioned in the former thread that the scientists could utilize various experimental tech (that happened to have hazardous effects) that would cause a lockdown in a certain room (presumably with the marines caught in there already) and vape whatever is in there (much like the room in the Lambda Complex with the headcrab alleys, you could steal away to the operation terminal and annihilate them with electricity).

I figure the terminals could be operated much in the way they were dealt with in Star Trek Elite Force 2 (mini puzzle game) or probably more familiar to everyone Bioshock 2.

Scientists would have different access levels for different terminals/retinal scanners. No weapons (except for perhaps a pistol), but they would have the ability to activate turrets or other security systems.

Security Guards I figure would only be able to carry the pistol or shotgun, supplementary abilities I’m not so sure about yet.

Was thinking about a loose class system for the HECU as well.

Standard Grunt: Shotty, SMG some frags (can run faster than the rest).

Computer Specialist: Pistol and Shotty, also has the ability to hack terminals & retinal scanners. This would provide some fun moments where you have a scientist on one side of a retscan door and a CompSpec on the other trying to race each other to solve the puzzle.

Still not so sure about this one, but I figure there should be above ground areas to traverse, so I think a Sniper should be included.

Not so sure about a demolitions expert.

Why Synergy? I was pretty sure Black Mesa Source was already going to have co-op.

Nevermind, I didn’t read the first post enough.

It’s planned, but not yet confirmed. The devs are prioritising single player. Co-op will be implemented if time allows.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
