Black Mesa Minecraft Server

First up, this thread is in this section to keep the server kinda private rather than it being completely public.

ABOUT THE SERVER
For those who don’t know, I run a Minecraft server for the Black Mesa community. There are probably around 10 active players and we get up to some pretty awesome stuff. For a (fairly old) overview of some of the stuff we get up to click here, I should probably post an update soon.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE SERVER?
Currently the address is only really given out to people who ask (And usually who are in the BM Steam chat too), but since our current server is failing us we have decided to no longer give out the address until we get the new server.

bscly.

Won’t be long before it’s overflooded by cockroaches.

My humble abode is still there. You guys can have it. Seriously.

Oh, that cobblestone hut is yours, isn’t it.

Yeah, I gave up on it. Everything in there can be yours.

Hence our whitelist. I’m currently thinking we’ll just have a tiny area for nonwhitelisted people to build in. Once you’re on the whitelist you’re able to access the rest of the world.

So I just joined the server to check it out a bit and the server basically refused me from entering my own adobe. It kept pushing me outside when I tried to enter and when I opened the doors, it would keep closing them after a few seconds and vice-versa.

Wtf is that about?

That would be the whitelist, its been that long since you last played you haven’t been validated :stuck_out_tongue:

That sure as shit was annoying.

minecraft was written in java an eats 3gb of RAM

I’m not going near it

lol ok, weirdo

Really? It only uses 500ish of mine. Java isn’t that bad you know.

Java on the server uses 1.2gb of ram because of Linux weird way of memory allocation. The JVM itself is only actually allocated between 700 and 1000mb.
As for the client, I’ve never seen it above 1.2gb. Usually hangs at 700mb or so which is about normal for a game :stuck_out_tongue:

cna i have address

That is some pretty cool stuff there. But I will not be joining this particular server. I have one that I frequent, and another that I will join once I get my real PC connecting to the internet again (I really hate my current gaming rig, so many problems over the years I should just replace it).

When I get around to building a new PC (6+ months probably) I’ll look into Minecraft, and if I end up liking it, I’ll donate to the cause.

Wtf, you don’t need a supercomputer to play Minecraft.

But my laptop is junk, (and old) and my desktop hasn’t been upgraded since 2006. (and has half the RAM that my laptop has) I tried the free version of Minecraft on my laptop and it ran like ass.

I may head on in there. I have a friend who doesn’t use his minecraft account, so I could commandeer that.
