Black Mesa is released!

i played through and beat the game, first i have to say that you guys did an absolutly amazing job, but at the same time i cant help feeling that a lot of the segments and maps in the origonal were not put into the game as well. it felt much shorter than the origonal. i was actually really dissapointed at the end sequence when i saw that the game ended right when you entered the portal to the other world. but i was happy to see the to be continued sign at the end of the credits. the source engine and the new look and feel to the game was amazing, but at the same time i think that you should have not cut anything out. the only thing i honestly had an issue with was the jump puzzles the fact that you had to use crouch jump to get around absolutly everything was irritating. i cant wait for the next part though, keep up the good work!

I was loving it, and then I got to the final room and was like ‘HOLY FUCK THIS LOOKS COOL’ and then the waves of controllers came and my framerate dropped to like 7fps. Other than that, I had a great time with this and cannot wait til Xen!

registered just to say thanks.

Thanks.

I’m curious, where is Barney? I mean Eli and Kleiner are there, and Barney is supposed to be there… but he is only mentioned briefly by the first guard… and then never again? I kept expecting to meet up with him somewhere and he’d help me out but he never did… :frowning:

He appears very briefly trying to open a red-white door, but it took me two playthroughs to realise it. It doesn’t really look anything like in Half-Life.

Where abouts is this? Which level?

Thank you black mesa devs! Yall are the best!

Same as in the original half life, you go past him on the train at the very start he is banging on a door.

BM Inbound? Where he’s supposed to?

Pic or didn’t happen
I read somewhere, that of all the guards in original HL1, only the one you drive past in the tram at the beginning is the “real” Barney. But I don’t remember why. Maybe it has something to do with Blue Shift? I own the generation-box, but never played Blue Shift because I lost interest in the not-Valve games after I got stuck on OpForce near the teleporter, where that game always crashes.

lol I thought this was abandoned years ago, what a surprise!

Moddb:

Minerva 9.6 / 10
Black Mesa 9.8 / 10

I agree.

just some patches and its 10 / 10

üdv amúgy.

hOLY SHIT OMG I WAS JUST TALKING TO MY BROTHER YESTERDAY AND I SAID “YEAH IT’LL PROBABLY NEVER COME” HOLY SHIT DOWNLOADING.

Just registered to THANK YOU, it was A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!
All this time and hard work shall be honored - i wish you all that Valve is seeking for Crew - Members and you all have a Job Opportunity in working for them!

And get the Game on Steam so i can buy it! (no PayPal, CC)

Amazing what you did there, breathtaking!!
It´s a Masterpiece (just some Patches here and there and it should be fine)

Have a nice Week and keep it going, you guys rock!

Wow. Where do I start? To the team behind this astonishing project: Thank you for your generous contribution to the Half-Life mythos.

You’ve not only captured the essence of a decade-old classic, you’ve polished it and gave it new life. All the easter eggs, every minuscule detail, refined into a new iteration.

Having played HL1 in my younger days, I was expecting to storm through Black Mesa easily. I was so wrong. I felt the same terrifying fear as I did when I first played HL1. At every turn, the same feeling of being alone kept on growing. Enemies hit hard and path well, the epic story is retold with greater depth through meticulously scripted NPCs.

Trolls and naysayers have said this isn’t “a real game” because it’s a remake. That’s like saying every Batman game or movie isn’t “real”. If Half-Life was an epic Batman comic, Black Mesa Source is Chris Nolan’s version.

Thank you so much for this release.

I’m not gonna lie, after following this project closely for 6 years, loading it up and finally playing it was quite emotional for me. The tram ride made me cry manly tears. ;___;

Played up to Office Complex so far, taking my time and not rushing. It’s everything I expected it to be and more. Superb job, devs.

MINERVA is also a kick-ass mod, but not as kick-ass as this one.

HOLY SHIT MAN, YOU SURE SAY HOLY SHIT A LOT.

…Why random Capitalization?

I think he’s german or speaks any other language where you capitalise nouns. The three years I read german have left that in me, I don’t remember much german but I tend to capitalise nouns all the time so I often re-read what I type.

Been following you guys since this project was announced, never thought the day would come to actually be playing [I]the[I] Black Mesa Source! Thanks for everything you guys have done and are continuing to do, this mod is truly incredible. Playing through it makes Half Life a completely new experience for me and it truly takes me all the way back to being 16 on Christmas eve 1998, the first time I fired up the original HL and had my mind blown. Well, you’ve succeeded to blow my mind yet again with the quality and upgrades and polish you guys have provided. This version of HL is a much deeper experience and everything my imagination wanted the first game to be.

So, all that to say, thank you for making this rock as much as it does and taking the time to do so. I look forward to the continued updates and I’m sure that Xen will truly be something!
