Black Mesa is released!

Was anybody else like HOLYSHITOMFG when they met the first Houndeye?

This game is freaking awesome.

Good job!

I will write a proper review after Xen is released.

Thanks @ all for this nice Work, for the Torrent and BLACK MESA!!!

I was more like “why are they so damn powerful?” I quickly learned to shoot them on sight, or pay the price.

I thought that they were cute
Until, well, until I died.

I always loved the hound eyes…They were definitely the one thing that I totally missed from the first Half life…

I also wanted to say I was aching all day at work, and even when I got home I knew I had to eat and all that before I could get into it… The little humor bits are awesome, a couple times I was like O_o whaaaa…a ha ha ha ha!!!

The detail is amazing as well… Just starting going through the whole tram system… I’m going to go through it many times over and over just so I can see all the little things going on. I keep thinking there is some sort of conspiracy and that the Devs are actually all just solid gold full time CEO’s at EA or Gearbox or something the level design, the voice acting, and just the little… little details, like the blood on your hands… the no stupid fricking battery for running and flash light business, the little acheivements, the shock wave from the hound eyes is amazing!!! I can’t go on enough about how amazing it all is…

It is so impressive I don’t like calling it a “mod” because it has the detail and polish of a triple A game. Thanks for all the hard work Dev team!

Hi, I’ve been following this site for quite some time now and I’ve spent the last few hours playing this work of art. I must admit that it is a jaw-dropping difference between Half-Life: Source and Black Mesa. The game is simply amazing BUT… I’ve found a problem. At the end of the bm_c2a4e map, the loading screen that should take me to the next map appears but the game crashes. I was really looking forward to getting the Gauss gun but the game just won’t load.

THANK YOU, DEVS!!! I’ve loved every second of playing it - even the frustrating the puzzles I forgot how to solve give me happiness! I love you guys - thank you!!!

please provide an installation guide!!!

I downloaded and unzipped blackmesa to c:\blackmesa
then sdk source 2007 installed from steam

and now?!?!?! I never installed a mod before

A. It was because the download (which I waited over 8 hours for) didn’t work, and B. I can’t use 7-zips.

Post that in Bug Reporting and I’m sure the devs will do everything they can to help.

So, yeah, I was GOING to wait for the Steam release, but I saw that it was on Desura, so I figure that it’s worth a shot that way. So far, it’s going WAY faster.

Hey,

I just registered to say thanks. I waited so long for Black Mesa and you didn’t disappoint, such a good mod, probably the best one out there for Half-Life 2.
Thanks again.

Not to sound like a fan boy, but I think this IS the best out there. I’d find it very hard to believe that any Half life mods had this much care and attention EVER.

EDIT: misread that sorry haha

Hahahahaha…

I can sense the feelings of the development team that drove them to do so well. They had that feeling of “make it as we envisioned, and make it how it SHOULD be made.” Nothing can be left as is with a little “good enough” statement tied in. These sacrifices are often made by other game developers, because it is business. Black Mesa is not business. The Black Mesa Team decided NOT to forget about detail, and it paid off. The heat blurriness above the pipes, the high res signs that you can actually read, the very high bitrate dialogue clips (makes a huge difference), the high polygon models (those in-game valves look stellar). While there are games in which developers focus this much on making every thing as high quality as possible, the fact that the BM dev team did it for free is very, well, awesome.

The one thing I wish could be done with Source 2007 is more dynamic shadows. That is the one thing source was always missing, but it of course would be extremely taxing on hardware. Portal 2 seemed like the first that included them heavily, and CS:GO obviously looks pretty good in terms of shadowing. The BM team still surprised me. I can tell they went full out with every thing they could in making the game look beautiful based on SDK 2007, and playing the game, I don’t get a sense of “this looks bad.” It looks indeed very good.

Doesn’t have Xen stage and others???
but still, GREAT JOB!!!
LOVED THIS -

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
