Black Mesa is released!

yes, they’re working on Xen, it will be added to BM in a patch

I actually never played HL1. I came on board with HL2 (and the subsequent episodes). I’ve been meaning to give the original a play through, and now that this is out it seems like this is the no-brainer way to go. It all looks stunning from what I’ve seen.

EDIT: I found the answers to my original questions in the FAQ. So a different question is this. Having never played the original, I don’t really know how much of the game is comprised of the “Xen” chapters. How much is missing from Black Mesa exactly? If I play it now, am I going to be playing just 50% of the game? 75%? Can I play Black Mesa and then just wiki the ending, or is there a lot to be seen and done in these Xen chapters?

Xen was about 1/5 of HL1, I believe. It will be longer in BM though, IIRC.

You should definitely not skip Xen. I recommend you play HL1 in its entirety, or at least play BM’s Xen when it gets released sometime next year.

Xen is an integral part of the HL narrative. It’s up to you whether or not to wait with BM until Xen is added.

Okay so i just finished playing Black mesa. All i have to say is. Oh My God. The amount of awesome that is contained within this remake is uncountable. I was a little disapointed that Xen wasnt in (Yes, i was a xen fan back in 1998 ) But then i saw that it may well be released in a patch and thats awesome stuff.

one quick question though! Have the designers any plans to update Opposing force / blue shift to the source engine? Does anyone know?

Yes, they don’t. Just go here and here. Damnit, people.

I deleted a few posts - let’s try to keep this relatively close to the topic.

McPixel is the first Greenlight game that has been released to Steam. What about Black Mesa? Can somebody estimate when it will be on Steam?

on the next year… maybe. i started to think that they are going to release the full version on steam, with Xen you know.

@up
That would mean no patches for ~3 months, hope ur joking.

Who knows. Does it matter? Just go with the flow, man.

and … what happened to the training room or hazard course, are going to also add that map, or that’s all.

About the Hazard Course.

BM developers really should get the spotlight now, these guys DESERVE to get some attention from the gaming media, imagine if valve hired them for HL3 or even EP3, that would be a HUGE boost for them

They’ve already recived loads of attention from big gaming sites such as machinima, IGN, gamespot and so on, however keep in mind that the mod was released over a month ago. They’re not gonna get publicity forever.

Well, there are still some lasting ripples regarding the Steam release, which itself will probably generate some ripples upon coming to fruition. Xen is having the former and will probably have the latter as well. Other than those, I agree with you.
:bms: forever.

if “black mesa”, is released on Steam, this morning I assumed that the game files could be packed with the time in GCF files with the voices in various languages and would be as ever, free!.

I honestly have no clue what you’re going on about.

The patch with the remaining of the game, includes a correction patch?

Well, we’re hoping there’ll be a correction patch long before then, seeing as Xen isn’t coming out until late 2013-ish.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
