I am aware of that, I just had no other video to show what I meant.
But the suggestion is finally to add such behavior to the soldiers.

Well, I played through both HL1 and HL2 on hard, and really like Ram said the AI difference is not measured in how hard they are to kill. However, neither game’s AI was good enough to make the game hard, so it came down to which one could take more bullets. The hardest thing in HL2 AI wise were the 3 legged walkers, because they actually took target quickly, and laid down fire on you in cover until you died. Never gave you a chance to retaliate. Now that may be a bit of an extreme circumstance, but that’s good AI for you.
I just hope the assassin AI isn’t too good… on hard I never could get past them because of the cloak.
Be careful what you people wish for. I can just see it, BMS gets released and everyone bitches about how hard it is
That’s actually really good to hear. I always thought that the HL1 grunts could take too much of a beating for my tastes.
I want the H-grunts to walk through the beam and blow up when they encounter one of yuor tripmines…
Even navy seals can be sneaked up on, and caught off guard.
Fuck yeah.
The fun parts of games is killing and trying to not get killed. This approach brings a little more of both.
oh listen to that code warrior guy
Haha yeah, I wouldn’t want to bet my life on trying to do that, though
The man has a point
Not even if you had quicksave?
Not much good without a quickload… do we get a quickload for the purposes of this hypothetical situation?
Let’s look at this from a practical and bio-chemical standpoint. At the start of a mission you are going to be pumped up on adrenaline, and your senses are going to be very focused. How long do you think any soldier can keep that up? Even the bullshitters that say they are trained to fight for days without sleep will admit that they aren’t at condition for that entire time. They will hit slumps as their body dumps all of that adrenaline. At these point the trained badasses will be walking dead, and hardly notice a man charging at the from a distance, let alone someone sneaking up on them from out of their periphery.
Since the Black Mesa incident took place over about two days during the Earthbound portion, it is entirely possible you would encounter some troops suffering from an adrenaline dump, which would make them less likely to be alerted to your presence the moment they see you, and would be very susceptible to being caught off guard.
Also, they have to check their fire so that they don’t shoot at each other. Target identification, even for a trained soldier, can take a moment. you can’t expect them to just shoot at everything the moment they see anything.
…yeah, I’m still not going to try it IRL. But that’s just me; feel free to do what you want!
Several days later you’ll find these in your local grocery store:
404 Child not found.
The combine ai was actually very good in HL2 and alot more advanced than the HECU grunts. The difference is that in HL2 Gordon is a freaking tank and the combine- even the super soldiers are… not. I think if you decreased the amount of damage Gordon could take or decreased the huge amount of health kits and the like that are placed around most of the maps the appreciation of the combine ai would go way up.
The HECU grunts were not smart, the were simply tanks like Gordon. In fact the main way to beat them in my experience was to use their simple logic/ ai against them.
I think the difference really isn’t the ai its the fact that experienced HL2 players who know were all the health and suit is have little to fear from puny small arms fire and no squad/ firefight tactics in the world are gonna help you if your enemy is Gordon Freeman with 100 health 100 suit and decked out with all his weapons
In fact the one of my only gripes with the awesome game that was HL2 was the fact there was no difficulty level that significantly decreased the amount of health lying around the maps (like a survival difficulty). I believe that kind of diff mode would be very fun to play in.
I actually agree here… They are very weak and Gordon is not… Makes me want to look into making a few edits to make the damage a little more equal… Giving gordon only a slight advantage when he has some charge in his suit… That would probably make the game more fun indeed… But i’z da layzee.
I wouldn’t want for even the lowliest soldier to be as tough as a tank
Save that for the actual boss fights.
Do what we do. The same damage you apply to NPCS is applied to you not counting the nerfing the skill levels do.
