If they set a release date and break it, I think you’re allowed to be upset. Whether it’s free or not, (and like any game) it’s something many are looking forward to and excited about. Now I can understand the delay. We know they set it for themselves to challenge themselves to get it done but unfortunately couldn’t make it. And that’s fine. But my problem is, don’t keep doing it. Don’t keep setting deadlines that you can’t meet. 1-2 fine. It’s understandable here, for obvious reasons. Their not some large company with large amounts of people working on this. We get this.
But people have a right to be disappointed if something they looked forward to was delayed. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s a natural response. Some people go over board with it. Yes, this is a free mod but saying it’s a free mod doesn’t excuse the fact that there was a release date that wasn’t met. So to say people can’t be disappointed by that because some have this preconceived notion that because it’s free, we have no right to be disappointed is ridiculous.
Let’s not over exaggerate. Of course if they got sick, it would justify a delay. But I would hope they would be kind enough to tell us why, instead of leaving us hanging.
thinks the game will be out. If it’s not done, it’s not done. Valve doesn’t go, “well, we have a release date coming up in two weeks, let’s just fuck off and have a office-wide Halo tourney.” Rather, they say “we have a release date in two weeks. The game’s not done. Everyone work as hard as you can to get a good product out the door.” And then everyone works 14 hour days to get it out the door. And if they think it’s not ready, then they keep working on it. (the last 6 months of production of HL2 before the missed deadline, this is how everyone at Valve was working. There’s an article somewhere that talks about it, but I can’t find it anymore… )
