Black Mesa 2009 Update

If they set a release date and break it, I think you’re allowed to be upset. Whether it’s free or not, (and like any game) it’s something many are looking forward to and excited about. Now I can understand the delay. We know they set it for themselves to challenge themselves to get it done but unfortunately couldn’t make it. And that’s fine. But my problem is, don’t keep doing it. Don’t keep setting deadlines that you can’t meet. 1-2 fine. It’s understandable here, for obvious reasons. Their not some large company with large amounts of people working on this. We get this.

But people have a right to be disappointed if something they looked forward to was delayed. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s a natural response. Some people go over board with it. Yes, this is a free mod but saying it’s a free mod doesn’t excuse the fact that there was a release date that wasn’t met. So to say people can’t be disappointed by that because some have this preconceived notion that because it’s free, we have no right to be disappointed is ridiculous.

Let’s not over exaggerate. Of course if they got sick, it would justify a delay. But I would hope they would be kind enough to tell us why, instead of leaving us hanging.

It’s a delay, get over it.

We’re not kept hanging, they gave us the reason that they couldn’t see themselves to bringing the mod to a finish by the end of 2009.

Why must people continue to be rude?

I never said we were kept hanging. Read what I write. There’s nothing to get over[/SIZE] because I never had a problem with the delay in the first place. My comments are based on a theoretical future (not the present) that I hope not to see with any game (free or not).

I never said that you may not be disappointed, but saying the delay cannot be tolerated is a bit too much, don’t you agree?

If they turn out to be like Valve, I’d have to disagree. I don’t think repeatedly delaying a game over and over should be tolerated. The whole tolerated comment wasn’t even mine. I was just agreeing with the guy about the fact that it shouldn’t be tolerated if they decided to release it in 2011. If they needed two extra years (3 altogether), I think a 2009 deadline in the first place was a bit premature. Delayed a year, okay. That’s fine. But another two years? C-mon. That’s got to make you disappointed? But I’m assuming you don’t care because … it’s free.

Valve said (at one point) they were going to release the Episodes every 6 months or so. Episode 2 came out a year after Episode 1 and well, Episode 3 should have been out at least in 2008. But it’s been two years now. It’s a little ridiculous in my opinion. To make that kind of commitment and break it. I just hope Black Mesa doesn’t make deadlines like that and is more realistic, which they seem to be. That’s all.

They were hoping to release in 2009, they never said they would. The year being shown at the end of the trailer doesn’t means anything either, as they said, it was done to motivate them.

I don’t get it. A deadline isn’t a commitment, it tells the public when the developer (or publisher, in far too many cases :meh  thinks the game will be out. If it’s not done, it’s not done. Valve doesn’t go, “well, we have a release date coming up in two weeks, let’s just fuck off and have a office-wide Halo tourney.” Rather, they say “we have a release date in two weeks. The game’s not done. Everyone work as hard as you can to get a good product out the door.” And then everyone works 14 hour days to get it out the door. And if they think it’s not ready, then they keep working on it. (the last 6 months of production of HL2 before the missed deadline, this is how everyone at Valve was working. There’s an article somewhere that talks about it, but I can’t find it anymore… )

It’s not like they have some contract with you (I didn’t sign anything…). They’re a private company, they have absolutely no obligation to you to get games out when they say they will.

If Valve had stuck to release dates, then Half-Life wouldn’t have been remade into the masterpiece it is now, it would be a mediocre game. Half-Life 2 probably wouldn’t have been made (or it would suck). There would be no Black Mesa (and therefore no missed deadlines for people like you to whine about).

Get some patience and suck it up.

What they always kept saying was, that it’s done when it’s done. No need for whining or anger because the devs didn’t meet the expectations of every personality A person.

There’s so much wrong with that sentence, I’m not going to bother getting into it. I understand where your coming from though.

How is what I said in any way rude?
This is the internet, What I’ve said is practically nothing.

Noooo! I woke up this morning and was all excited
I was hoping for a New Year’s release :’(
Oh well, so we go.

So what you’re going to do? Assault Carlos in his house and force him to release the mod?

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you guys are the ones that need the patience. You’re the ones repeating the same lame excuses. “Suck it up”, “get over it”. I’m seeing a pattern. Perhaps this is how you really feel. Perhaps this is what you continue to tell yourself.

I’m not the one that needs to have patience. I’d rather they take 10 years to complete the game than set unrealistic deadlines to motivate themselves. Same for Valve. The unknown is often better than knowing.

Psychoanalyzing fail.

Hell yea!

Obviously not.

Happy new year to everyone

s1e9a8n5, stop taking things that don’t really matter at all so seriously and take your crap elsewhere.

That’s a hilarious statement considering that’s how all this started and it wasn’t me that took my comment seriously.

i stilll have the hope it will come out today at any hour

It wont.

(and now, back to the regularly scheduled asinine bickering)

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
