Indeed. What happened to you complaining to the facepunchers and never coming back, J-Man…?
Woo.
In other news, I bloody knew it would be delayed.
See you in March or something.
This is absolutely false. I made the dev blog, I know every single one of them, and there was never an interview where we said anything of the sort.
The mod was originally planned and started by half-life fans across a few forums, not by any of our current devs. I personally worked on another mod for nearly a year and half after hl2 was released, before joining this team.
This project is only just turning 5 years old, and that is from when the very first members got together. The team as you know it has only been together for about 4 years, with many of the original members leaving the team after not having accomplished much in their first year. I have been in charge of the project for about 3 1/2 of those years, and that’s when development has really been organized and kicked into gear.
Enough with the exaggerations, please.
How the fuck could the concept for BMS exist before the release of HL2 anyway? Did Valve employ the BM team to build the Source engine?
Alright, cool. I couldn’t listen to that blog (as I stated twice) so I couldn’t verify it’s contents or who made it. I for whatever reason thought it was you. Regardless, who give a damn whether it’s been in production 5 years or 6?
EDIT:
The blog WOULD be on page 2 of “News” but when you click the 2, it redirects you to the front page.
I remember listening to that a while ago, I think something was said along the lines of “The idea of a half-life recreation was considered by fans while half-life 2 was still under development”
but don’t quote me on that, I could be wrong.
Perhaps that’s what it was. I just listened to it like 3 days before the new front page went up. I know what I’m talking about. Something along the lines of “We wanted to redo this thing, and now there will be a new engine coming out soon to make it with.” I wish they’d fix the news pages.
I did some searching, I think this is what you were on about:

Yes that was it!
BOOYA! Absolutely false my ass.
Wow, you just stuck it to the man, and by the man I mean the lead developer :fffuuu:
I wish I had your stones.
Nah, I’m just really bored and can’t sleep. I also love to be right. You must understand as a Pittsburgher, I love Carlos (former Pittsburgher) as for Ram, well, she has pretty nose.
BAN HIM!
You shut your mouth, you!
A quote from JeanPaul. It figures.
I can definitively say that JeanPaul’s quote right there is full of shit. He wasn’t on the team back then, and while neither was I, I am much closer in contact with the developers who WERE in charge back then, and I know the history a little more clearly than “Um, I don’t know, but”.
also “in development” and “posting dreamy ideas on a messageboard” are pretty different things.
Understand that when even professional news sites go around quoting “6 years in development” and we’ve been in serious development for all of 3 1/2, it is annoying and yes, a big deal to us.
All we ever hear is “Haven’t you guys been doing this for like 6 years and you delayed it like 5 times already?”, when it is nowhere near the truth.
Just how everyone keeps claiming VALVe spent six years making HL2, while they forget that they must’ve spent at least one year (maybe two) on development of the Source engine and STEAM before HL2 development started in earnest.
They did some concept work and rough drafts I’m sure, but they didn’t spent a full six years doing just HL2!
I completely understand where you are coming from, but I don’t need to be crucified for simply writing what was said. Don’t blame me, blame those other developers and news sites.
This will be probably the biggest mod ever released.
Guys, just don’t listen to the morrons whining that they are soooo dissapointed, etc. There are hundreds, or even thousands dudes/dudettes who will give you (BM TEAM) support till the release of finished BM, whenever it will be.
I’m a lurker on BM Site/Forum since ~ 2005. Black Mesa mod will kick ass. Keep up the good work.
Not trying to crucify you dude, just trying to clarify. You did quote a dev who said “I don’t know” and then proceeded to answer the question anyway. And you conveniently left the “I don’t know” part out.
Oh well, it’s a shame but there is no point in complaining. Don’t let the haters think that your work goes unappreciated because it doesn’t. Take the time and do this right and in the end everybody will like it better that way than putting the deadline and the pressure on when there is no need to do that. I shall continue my wait knowing I won’t be disappointed once the game comes out.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
