Believe what you like.
i can’t belive someone just blurts out that “this will be crap and won’t get any Downloads” i mean about 1 Million people or MORE are waiting on this, the day of release is probably even gonna hit 1 billion Downloads.
well see yall in umm somewhere in 2010! where it will be delayed until the 12th of NEVER (JK).
(Blackmesa: 3010)
I don’t think you know how much 1 billion really is.
sure i do…ehhh its like 1 right?
more like 1,000,000,000 :o okay BM may not exceed or even reach that much but atleast it will most likely hit 1,000,000 (1 Million )
High-strung gamers can suck my dick. It’s those people that breed the likes of Jack Thompson.
Fix’d.
Oh my god
that fix was Hilarious you win! Skaevola just win
You guys don’t owe us a thing (no videos, no screen shots, no media). Continuing your outstanding effort is all we should ask for!
Can’t wait!
You just hit the nail on the head. There is no doubt in my mind that this will be finished some day. However distribution will prove to be an undertaking nearly as hectic as the final weeks prior to release. Millions of people are going to be attempting to pull what could be a few gig off of the internet. Without hundreds of mirrors worldwide, I can almost guarantee server failures. One simple solution would be to have valve host it. Im sure with the proper contact, one could get it hosted right from steam. “Content hosting provided by Left4Dead 2” would be the bomb. I hated the idea of another l4d, so Id be happy to see some of our hard earned moneys returned.
The President of our country does have a “kill the internet” button. Its activation releases Black Mesa onto the Internets… Global chaos promptly ensues as the internet breaks in half.
First off my utmost respect to the developers, especially the coders. Being a software engineer who also devotes time to “free” projects, I know it’s tough getting things done on a large project. I’ll also caveat my comments by saying I know nothing of your development situation and the different factors and players involved.
Hindsight is always 20/20. Because of that, looking back at decisions and progress is always worth the effort and frustration. The one thing that keeps coming to mind with this project is a concept that comes from the Linux and open source world: release early and release often. That concept buys you so much. First, releasing early gets something out early which energizes your users and your developers. That helps keep momentum up and also gets a whole bunch of people looking at the project. Second, releasing often shows progress. You define development milestones and goals that are attainable in a reasonable amount of time. An example would be releasing a few levels at a time. The really cool thing is that it gives you perfect opportunities to incorprorate bug fixes and user feedback.
I’d really like to see Black Mesa make it. It could be lots of fun for years to come.
For more info on “release early and release often, Google the Cathedral and the Bazaar”. In particular, this chapter: https://catb.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/cathedral-bazaar/ar01s04.html
I foresee many bandwidth problems with your theory.
Best cockroach post ever?
Valve usually have bandwidth to spare…
(Taken a few mins after the TF2 WAR! Update release, yes… 160gbps ~20gb/s)
But Valve usually come to the mod team asking if they can release over steam, rather than the team asking for the mod to be available through Steam
Fail first post.
Fail troll attempt. Try to be more original than a few swear words and expressing adolescent rage at not getting given something for free when you thought you would.
Riiiight. Over one sixth of the human population on Earth are going to download BM on the day of release. Or at all.
Please stay in school.
What do you mean stay in school? This is the math education they get in school today.
Okay maybe i was being a Bit too retarded when i said that but atleast I’m optimistic.
but in hindsight it seems impossible for Blackmesa to reach a billion downloads in one day.
One Million overall downloads though…i see that number being the amount downloaded, perhaps more.
(Switches to Demonic Voice Of SANTA: I’m gonna eat your soul) just kidding…or am i?
You mean the entire population of china is gonna download the mod?
There are too many smileys in this post and it smells of fail.
Usually yes. I’m fairly certain that people would be using up more bandwidth than the TF2 update on an initial release of BM.
The belgian government started an investigation into download limits imposed by the ISPs, just in time for Black mesa
It just doesn’t feel like christmas now i know why XD
anyway’s keep upp the good job (maybe next year ey?)
