Black Mesa 2009 Update

Haha, I lol’d

It’s kind of hard to defend oneself against an accusation that isn’t falsifiable.

What proof of me not being a sockpuppet would you accept?

Another Ad Hominem? Dangerously close to one.

Lets hope I used to quote feature correctly, or I’ll no doubt have to make this point again.

And is that your only point? To whine about us flaming someone who lost all credibility by the end of his first post? The points I make against J-Dude might be blunt, but that doesn’t make them any less valid, because they’re still based on statements he made.

That’s what I thought Deathmonkey.

EDIT
Wow, didn’t realize there was a page 43. ._.
I feel like Imonfire right now. :hmph:

Proof that this thread is going too quickly.

In all honesty, I’m surprised it hasn’t been locked yet. :retard:

I assume you are referring to these posts, in which you are nothing but hostile and insulting. While you certainly have a right to your opinion, and are obviously welcome to share it, you’ve made no justification for your “blunt points” against J-Dude, which so far amount to exactly nothing.

What is my point? My point is that you missed his point, and in your fervor have overlooked an opinion that might enlighten yours. Take it for whatever you will, but your hostility is exactly what I wanted to respond to. If you care at all for improving your perception of things, then I urge you to actually go back and read what J-Dude has to say. Strip away his intensity, and he makes a strong case for accountability.

If they did then it would just spread to the rest of the forums.

NOOOOOOO!
This is gonna be the worst christmas ever.
Oh well. Maybe by summer?

Saying you feel sad and betrayed because the devs didn’t respect the mod’s deadline, from my point of view, is just as reprehensible as antagonizing another member for his opinions.

-edit_ I’m not saying you did_

There is an opportunity here for this to become something meaningful and productive, as far as discussions go. That it is not is exactly what I’ve been trying to point out.

Anger is very much like a fire, but fire can be used for productive ends. Hate, while dangerous, can be constructive, if you let it be. However, ignorance simply is, and the only way to improve upon it is by dispelling it.

Really? You only see hostility in all of my posts? Wow… Considering the ones that might seem the most hostile are taken out of context here because I was replying to his “I wasn’t going to come back here again, but I was just looking through and had to say something…” whiny crap.

But hey, maybe I did miss his point, I’ll give you that. Whether his underlying point was strong, it was so wrapped up in an emotional state that wasn’t rational, he ended up losing credibility.

So what you are saying is that everyone is at fault? Or am I at fault for defending myself against my antagonists?

While you may feel that J-Dude’s mode of expression is reprehensible, his argument is none-the-less meaningful. Disregarding an logical argument because it is inconsistent with the actions of the supporter is effectively an Ad Hominem Tu Quoque.

The validity of a position is not influenced by the character of the one who holds it.

I suppose. But the majority of this thread now is just off topic.

Accountability? You think that the devs are obligated to you or anyone else? Sheesh. Talk about arrogance!

The devs never signed a contract. They aren’t a businesss. They aren’t required to provide anything. They’re doing this in their free time because they WANT to do it.

I used to be a free content provider myself in another venue. However, the only thing ever given to me by my audience was “Why aren’t you giving me free stuff faster?!” It seriously de-motivated me to a point where I didn’t even want to do it anymore.

The devs aren’t accountable to YOU. I think it’s awesome that they’re doing this mod and it’ll be a great day when it’s released. However, I’m not riding on Raminator’s back saying that he owes me a damned thing.

Because he doesn’t.

These are the only posts I found where you directly respond to him in this thread, so feel free to quote any others I may have overlooked. The “points” you made in the posts I quoted have no context to cite other than that they are obviously responses to J-Dude. You repeated reference to J-Dude’s posts as “whiny crap” demonstrate all the context necessary to understand the points you were making in those posts, so no further elaboration is necessary.

You’re defense now is nothing more than a Circumstantial Ad Hominem that accuses J-Dude of being too emotional to make a rational argument. I need not even disagree, as this is yet another logical fallacy.

Don’t reply to him, guys. It should be obvious after (at least) the third account he made that he’s only here for attention. Don’t give it to him.

You’ve missed the point, so I’ll state it for you again.

“If we cannot hold them accountable to their goals, then they have no reason to hold themselves accountable either.”

By this I am not suggesting that anyone demand anything more from the developers than they have already given. I am perfectly willing, and all too happy, to give the BM developers whatever time they need to produce the fantastic game I am expecting.

However, my position, and reason for posting here, is that you have attacked J-Dude for making an otherwise sound argument, to which no one has yet offered any rational arguments to the contrary. What he has essentially said, is that he believes in holding the Development team to the high standards they have obviously set for themselves, and that with the failure to meet this deadline, he would be doing them a disservice by not being critical.

He made his point with some rather dramatic, if odd, examples, but his position is none-the-less important. You all proudly go on about how great this mod will be, and how the developers owe us nothing. Well you’re right, they don’t owe us anything, but in return we owe them nothing either. The success of their mod depends on how it is received, it depends on their fans. They do not owe you a mod, but you do not owe them support either. One begets the other, and if you cannot understand how that makes them accountable to you, then you simply fail to grasp the meaning of the word.

Yet another logical fallacy, this one called, rather aptly, “Poisioning the Well”.

Keep it up Deathmonkey7, at this rate you cover the gambit of them by the end of the night.

And you still wouldn’t have made whatever progress you were trying to achieve… GTFO GreyRaven.
