Bioshock on steam breaks

Recently bought bioshock in the steam sale and i’ve just got round to playing it.
though when i start it up it shows splash screen, enters fullscreen mode and goes black, but then it just breaks before anything happens and windows closes it :fffuuu:

at first i was like :expressionless:
but then i was like :rabies:

why don’t you check out the steam forum group for bioshock?

i did and couldn’t find my problem, account is pending for the forum.

the words ‘Bioshock’ and ‘break’ seem to be synonymous… version 1.00 hard freezes my comp every 30 minutes of gameplay or so.

Re-installed it and now it splash screens, then just goes black. tried all the things the steam forum has said and it still doesn’t work.
Uninstalled openAL and changed sound to speakers only.

Maybe i just wasted £4…

video card good enough? drivers updated? obvious questions but just makin sure

um, doesn’t bioshock have the patch out? i thought the steam version had it automatically

graphics card definitely good enough, not too sure where to update drivers, but should all be up to date.
got win7 if that makes a difference.

yes, but even so theres still a few problems here and there.

Yeah I just bought bioshock 2 and it won’t even start. The screen goes back then it returns to my desktop.

That’s why you should just break down and buy it for a console. I know those words are kind of heresy for some of the hardcore PC gamers, but at least the console version doesn’t have problems like that.

Yeah true, it’s just i’ve heard good things about it and it was in the steam sale so i thought i might aswell.

now that you say it, i remember that bioshock was unplayable without updating the drivers to the newest version when i played it few months back, you schould try that, sinc eit helped me.

Off topic but on topic: Did they ever patch the vending machine noises in BS2?

Boarderlands now also has this problem, but steam doesn’t realized it’s crashed and wont let me do anything else.

Well, if it’s more than one game, it could even be a hardware problem. Look around and see if there are newer drivers, and then find a program to check hardware temp. There’s a program called Speccy that not only checks temperature but gives you specifications for all your hardware. Should make it easier to find drivers that way.

Edit: nevermind, what maverix said.

I’m almost positive this will help you out(:
What you’re gonna do, is open your start menu, then right click the computer tab on the right and click properties. From there, a window will pop out, and on the top left click the tab that says device manager. This will show you all the hardware present on your computer. open them, and right click the hardware. Press update drivers. 9automatically search for update) update them all. if nono of that works, go to canyourunit.com search for bioshock , and check out if your comp can run it, itll tel lyou if OS, ram, and just about everything that can, annd can’t run it.

Hope this helps :3
Edit: Obviously, go on the website, and check if your specs run bioshock d:

Your comp hates the unreal engine?

Fixed.
Not sure what the problem was but i recently got a replacement gpu with different drivers and it works now.
The only problem is that it makes my monitor go very red. and stay red for ages.
No idea why :frowning:
