BF3 alpha

I believe what he is saying is this. Damage output and alike are currently client side. The servers do not force the client to update. So there are some snipers with the old damage because they haven’t updated. There are also some snipers with new damage because they have.

He also states that you could exploit this by editing your damage figures in your game. Since there is no punk buster or forced client updating you could very easily hack this game.

^

also i blame beer that you couldn’t understand anything i wrote, my deepest apologies

Well… that’s a let down. I take it there’s quite a bit of hackers/cheaters exploiting the alpha right now, then?

I doubt it.

no

I believe I read somewhere (may have been here) that the sniper scopes give off a glare that is pretty noticeable.

Does this happen if the sniper is in shade or is in a position where it’s impossible for the sun to hit the scope?

it’s like a mini torch, very easy to spot
wherever the sniper is (even in the fucking subway) the scope reflects some mysterious light source
reflection is got into my eyes

That’s dumb, why would they do that?

It won’t effect me much anyway if it stays in, I suck at sniping.

To enforce actual sniping behavior. IE shoot change positions shoot change positions. Snipers that just sit camped on a hill get annoying. Both to be on the team and to fight.

Also they removed kill cam as far as I can tell so without it camping as sniper would be too effective.

It also isn’t all bad because it makes trying to head shot a sniper with the bright ass glare near impossible.

Furthermore I imagine you could avoid this glare as sniper by using a rifle without a scope. Just like a lot of the greatest snipers WWII did. (They were actually worried about the extra inch of exposure and glare from the scope too :stuck_out_tongue: )

Wouldn’t just adding a very thin cloth or mesh in front of the scope remove that glare anyway?

TBH with how long range sniper rifles are today I doubt glare is much of a factor. But imo it makes for interesting game play mechanics.

Also, why make the sniper mechanic so realistic when the rest of the game isn’t in relation.

Actually screw that these days glare is rarely a problem. It’s called cowlings and treated lenses

Sniper mechanics are important because snipers alone have the capability to totally ruin a game since everyone hates them or loves them. The mechanics introduced try to level the playing field both directions so that there’s a happy medium between the lovers and haters.

Glare these days isn’t a problem at all. Take a look at the marine corps’ RCO. That 25-cent piece of plastic with cardboard honeycomb completely eliminates glare off the scope unless the light source is within 7 degrees of the center of the scope’s fov.

because video games

I actually heard a kid saying that BF3 is going to be more realistic than ARMA II. I laughed. Hard.

lol, kids are funny.

And I would rather keep it unrealistic anyway.

The alpha has ended a few moments ago

And I don’t care because in spite of a few features because it is still an alpha battlefield bad company 2 is better.

I’m gonna be honest I found that alpha pretty frustrating. For a variety of reasons and surprisingly me sucking at it wasn’t one of them.

So by what I’ve seen and heard BF3 is shaping up to be recycled BFBC2, which was itself a bit of a COD clone.
God dammit.
