Best Game Soundtracks of All Time

Post your favorite game soundtracks.

Im’a let you all choose, but Castlevania: Lords of Shadow had one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. From start to finish the games and it’s soundtrack merged perfectly I can’t explain it, you got to experience it for yourself.

Darksiders II
Kingdom Hearts(Series)
Final Fantasy(Series)
Halo(Series)
Most of the Mega Man series
EVE Online(This is in my top 5 for sure)

I might add more if I can remember.

Journey wins hands down.

I’ve said this before, but EVE Online has an amazing soundtrack. It’s mostly just slow, wonderfully ambient electronic music, absolutely perfect for space.

Some highlights:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPrHTFQhHEc&feature=relmfu (this might be the most popular song)

Edit: I forgot about this one, but it’s amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-f5Q6C_gpY&feature=relmfu

I’ve said it before, but Unreal.

Examples
Unreal - Erosion
Unreal - Neve’s Crossing
Unreal - Valley of The Spires
Unreal - All Hallows Sunset
Unreal - WarGate
Unreal - Unreal Crypt
Unreal - Surfacing
Unreal - #9 (ISV Kran deck 3 & 4)
Unreal - Chizra

I don’t think a soundtrack had ever got me more engaged and immersed in a game, other then the Diablo 1 soundtrack (which I won’t bother linking, I think you know why).

I think Quake 1, Diablo 1, and Unreal are pretty good examples of why I feel having huge orchestra’s score your music all the time doesn’t really help the atmosphere. Of course that doesn’t mean Orchestral scores are bad at all, but I feel too many games substitute what should be tracks for “atmosphere” for simple generic movie-like orchestral tracks.

I’d say these two rank in the Top 10 list of my favourite game soundtracks of all time:

Command and Conquer - Red Alert:

[Playlist] C&C Red Alert 1 - Soundtrack

When playing the game(s) I would always just play for the music, since I’m just as good as a strategist to complete the campaign on Easy. :meh:

If you want to listen to it, I recommend Klepacki’s main-site (there’s a higher quality player), YouTube’s quality is relatively low for almost all of the tracks…[/SIZE]

Age of Empires:

[Playlist] Age of Empires - Soundtrack

Another strategy game I wasn’t particularly good at playing, but I still enjoyed it, much because of the music.

The top ones could be considered my two (2) all time favourite soundtracks, but these are among them, as well (in alphabetical order):

Abe’s Exoddus & Abe’s Oddysee
Final Fantasy VII ( 7 )
Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 4
Twisted Metal: Black

Note: The linked videos above are just the highest on my top-list for each particular game / series.

Will add more later…

NFS, back when they had Rom Di Prisco to write the soundtrack:

Rune (Rune Classic on Steam) - unsurprisingly, Rom Di Prisco had his hand on it too:

Mechwarrior (Duane Decker):

Quake 3:

You can count Mateo Pascual in there with Commandos Soundtrack. He did use strings and brass, but the crew was leaning more towards a camera orchestra. Results are the best fucking string/brass pieces anywhere:

Why the fuck is 4 there but not 3?

Do I need to say it?

ah, as much as I love Neil, I am definitely going to miss Marty.

honorable mentions

Journey

Spyro the Mother Fucking DRAGON

SLY VAG-DICKING-COOPER

Quake 1 is mostly droning ambience, but this is worthy for my list for the theme alone. When I adapt this into a feature length film I’m getting Trent himself to remaster this. World, suck my dick.

Fucking obvious first choice:

Deu Sex (not the Sexual Revolution) - no reason to link this.

Don’t forget Matt F. Furniss:

Human Revolution had somefucking good tunes, ODB.

How could I forget InFamous? This shit is so good.

Yeah, very nice, high-fidelity, forgettable modern VG music.
No one could actually remember anything but ‘Icarus’ and the fact that some of the riffs sounded like a tron:legacy ripoff.

just listening to that makes me want to play it, I haven’t played it before so I may just pick it up off of Steam.

I still pump my Rune CD into the drive sometimes.

Dang, that is good. Wonderfully atmospheric.

Silent Hill
Tekken
Half life

For me they have some of the best tracks I have heard.

Solar Fields’ score for Mirror’s Edge is fantastic.

Agreed. I may actually have it lying around somewhere myself, I recall having it but i never played it for some reason.

That song you quoted sounds a lot like Joseph LoDuca’s work on both the Xena and Hercules TV shows.

Mass Effect 2 - Suicide Mission
I prefer this one over the OST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYtj38KQxm4

Darksiders II Guardian Boss - this one isn’t in the OST although it’s one of the best scores in the game.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World:
vs Gideon
vs Lucas Lee
vs Matthew Patel

God of War:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1br_h51dD4

Assassins Creed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0i6YFrSs6c
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH1NFziHUxg

Jesper Kyd is a musical genius.

I listened to this song while I was reading this. Very dramatic.

Descent and Descent 2’s redbook audio:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIGUsZ20LUk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=NnXT2IO367k#t=43s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXHN8v80rLY&feature=relmfu
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP2GEMRYEYc&feature=relmfu

I personally prefer most of these songs heavily to Quake 2’s OST although I do like Descent into Cerberon (no pun intended) as much as the Descent stuff.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
