Battlefield 4

Yep.

Not worth 60 dollars, and they’re asking for over a hundred at this point.

Still, seems like it’s gonna be worth some time. I just wish they’d abandon this community splitting nonsense.

Also I wish they wouldn’t add motion blur onto these trailers in post. It’s a misrepresentation of the game. If they wanted proper per pixel motion blur in the game so damn bad, they’d have put it in.

I think I’m gonna get it. Thinking back, their early games were pretty damn iterative as well, though it wasn’t as noticeable because of the time period changes.

Hell, Bad Company 2 looked exactly like Bad Company 1 with a different HUD, just BC1 wasn’t on PC.

I’m not gonna pre-order though, probably will get it later on when they release the “premium edition” in one copy like they did with BF3, that way I’ll pay the price of the release game but with all the extra content.

And from what I’ve heard one map is supposed to actually become flooded when you blow the dam which sounds pretty awesome and is not something I ever expected them to have in a BF game.

Unfortunately EA having DICE wrapped around its fingers is probably the reason they keep doing this, especially because during Bad Company 2 DICE was like “We don’t want anyone to ever pay for map packs”

That’s probably what I’m gonna do too.

That one map was actually suggested by a player who put it in a BF3 community map concept art contest (or something).
On an unrelated note, I really like the improvements they’ve made to the Battlefield theme. BF3 was basically a lot of radio noise. Although I still want a proper orchestra back.

Yep, I think I’ll be this one after the price drops as well.

Maybe it’ll be just like my $120 copy of BF3 (now worth less than $4.83) that’s run into so many bugs and crashes that’s in unplayable!

i wonder if that naval battleship crashing into the island was a map script or actual player controlled recklessness (my bet is map script since its EA, and caspian border had scripted antenna collapse)

The point at which the tower at Caspian collapsed was scripted but unless there were multiple scripts for it, the falling itself wasn’t scripted. I’ve seen it fall in many different ways.

The massive things you can destroy (like the skyscraper in Shanghai) are player-controlled. You attack a set of pillars and then the skyscraper falls, I guess it’s the same with that ship.

Yeah, they showed it in a live stream, some player attacked a windmill with a helicopter until it fell and pushed the ship next to it towards the shore.

It looks much better than BF3 without a doubt, but I don’t think I’ll buy it. I will be playing the beta though.

I think you misunderstood his question. The boat and the skyscraper are player controlled as in the player initiates them, but they’re scripted in that their collapse/crash course is set and will be the same every time. With the skyscraper’s more indistinct version of destruction I don’t think it’ll be a problem, but with something as noticeably unique as a boat’s crash course into the beach I think it’ll really really grind at me that the sequence will be the same every time.

I just assumed he was talking about player control since he brought up the caspian border antennae which had no player involvement.

Unless they had randomized animation sets that changed it up, it would take some pretty nice tech to pull off unscripted events like that and have them look good.

I think that kinda stuff is for the middle/ end of the next gen.

bf4 will pretty much be like this

Yeah there was blue tint in just about every BF3 map (except for the Aftermath maps which had a yellow tint). I wouldn’t be surprised if there was blue tint in the BF4 maps.

Edit: And with this post, I am now a Zombie.

I am kind of hopeful for this actually, since I enjoyed a bit BF3. But not enough to look past its BLATANT imbalance every-fucking-where (M16A1/M4/HK416 owns pretty much any other weapon, choppers that are almost impossible to take down, the AMTRAC is unreasonably hard to destroy among many others). The fucking squad leader system works about as well as a M4 loaded with AKM rounds (as in, it doesn’t), with the only advantage being it making you easier to see when spotted.
The campaign was a fucking afterthought that made no storytelling sense. It failed to achieve its purpose, which is (for a multiplayer focused game) to essentially teach you how to play the multiplayer (there were no chopper nor plane tutorials). Also, MOTHERFUCKING DLC.

But as I said, I am kind of excited for this. Everything looks good (yes, I know that it working on paper is not necessarily good), the customization looks kind of cool (although it better be fucking balanced this time). Maybe I’m not as jaded as you (I am bit jaded, because EA) and thats why I’d actually like to at least give it a fighting chance. I can’t tell if something is shit until I’ve handled the shit in question.

The lack of new Half-life related stuff is kind of getting to me now, it seems.

I kinda like what they’ve done to the forests/jungles/nature. BF3 looked really ugly in nature enviroments.

I like that too. I also like what they have done with the water. Makes it look a lot more realistic than BF3 ever was. Can’t wait to play the beta.

bf3 had alot of ugly things because of that dumb blue/orange™ tint

i like my wake island and strike at karkland brown

All of BF3’s vegitation looked like shit because of the game’s palette. It did not accommodate for green at all. BF4’s is definitely more neutral, if a bit too desaturated. Still a step up from blue everything.
