Battlefield 4

Comparison with screenshots captured directly from devkits and the PC version.

TLDR version:

PC: In this comparison, 1920x1080, Ultra settings, 4x Deferred MSAA. Of course it looks better than any console version on these settings :stuck_out_tongue:

Xbox One:
• 1280x720 upscaled to 1920x1080 with nasty sharpening and contrast filter.
• Whites look about normal, blacks are severely crushed.
• Currently missing AO (devs have said it will be added).
• Textures look similar to the PC version, though detail is hindered by the low screen resolution and the sharpen filter scaling.
• Worse framerate overall than PS4 (singleplayer).

PS4:
• 1600x900 upscaled to 1920x1080 with nasty blurry filter.
• Whites look washed out/dim, blacks are slightly crushed.
• Currently has AO.
• Some textures are misaligned? Textures look blurrier than they should due to the blur filter scaling. Occasional texture streaming issues.
• Better framerate overall than Xbox One (singleplayer).

EDIT: Found a screenshot that illustrates almost all of those points pretty well:

PC
Xbox One
PS4

Shitbox One wtf are you doing?
Pathetic.
Edit: This is why I’m sticking to the PC.
Question, will this game run fine on my win 7 64bit instead of win 8? And same goes to my CPU “i7 2600k”
NOTE: I know it sounds ridiculous, but I’m just sceptical about it.

The beta ran pretty well for me on Windows 7 64-bit. There might be a performance boost on Windows 8, though.

I think the rest of your specs will have a greater effect on performance than your OS.

Yes.

EDIT: Changed link to go to an article rather than just an image.

Now that picture for the CPU test, I haven’t even notice it until now, but thank you anyway.

So… Each system has its own strengths and weaknesses?

Each version of the game has its own strengths and weaknesses :stuck_out_tongue:

The issues on each system could be patched out before release - IIRC both consoles are getting day one patches, Battlefield 4 will probably be the same way.

The beta allowed you to supersample directly in the game so I wonder how the final game will run with that on instead of msaa. I’m pretty sure msaa has an insane performance hit generally in DX11 games.

Supersampling has an even bigger hit. MSAA doesn’t seem to impact performance that much for me on BF3 DX11.

Free Battlefield 3 code. Just use this code on Origin. Base game only.

Not working anymore, it would seem. :frowning:

Eh, just go look at /r/pcmasterrace, they drop a lot of keys in there. I found two BF3 keys just yesterday.

I found a code on an abandoned forum.
Too bad I keep getting this shit when redeeming it :frowning: .

The game runs really well. Everything maxed except effects quality (which seems to be the most intensive setting for some reason) with 2x msaa and a pretty solid 60 fps. Only really drops during cutscenes, probably because of all the bokeh.

afaik, I think effects quality maxed out means shadow casting/ shadow recieving particles, which is fuuuucking intense.

Which is why I kept it on, that is true next level shit.

Well if you’re using an nVidia card, the game spazzes out. It runs perfectly smooth on my pc, but I get this weird screen flicker. I’m trying to update my drivers to fix it. It also seems to happen on the best nVidia cards too (770, 780 and Titan).

I have Nvidia and get no weird flicker.

I have AMD with latest drivers and I get flicker but it only happens when my vehicle explodes with me inside.

Also, I just got done playing a longass conquest game on BF4 and I really like it. It looks fantastic and runs a little better than BF3 here. But god man, that match took like 3 hours to end.

Installing the newest drivers seemed to fix the flicker for me. Campaign is a lot better than BF3’s campaign, the new characters seem to be a lot more memorable, but I can’t give a verdict on the story just yet. I’m gonna try some multiplayer in a bit.

EDIT: Holy shit, not a single server is not filled to the brim.

You need to play the campaign to unlock some MP weapons. That’s kinda lame. That said, it is kinda fun so far.

Also, for some reason, the FOV settings don’t apply to the SP, so you’re stuck with the default 60 or 70 fov.

I noticed that somewhat. I had my fov set to 100 but it looked really narrow when I started single player. It should be the other way around if anything, unless they have stuff set up so that any wider fov would kill performance or allow you to see popin.
