Barney Calhoun?

That was yet another random guard. It has been stated (many times) before that Barney and Gordon knew each other long before the “player” can remember, and I personally believe that this one-shot joke was only meant to be a reference to give the player an idea of who this “new” Barney is based on. Also, his name in the credits of Half-Life 2 and the Episodes is listed as “Barney Calhoun----Michael Shapiro.”

In response to Daniel’s theory, I believe that when Barney was teleported out of Black Mesa, one of a few things could have happened:

A: Barney saw Gordon through the window, and Gordon’s crowbar slipped through the bars. It was caught in his teleportation field and teleported out with him.
B: There was another crowbar in that same closet
C: Barney’s crowbar was kept from Blue Shift, and learning of Gordon’s use of the crowbar, his “back at Black Mesa” line is just a sentiment.

I think Option A is most likely, seeing as Gordon is stripped of his weapons, and it is unknown if the crowbar he acquires after regaining consciousness is indeed the one he used prior, as no other remnants of his arsenal appear in the compactor. However, I suppose that could be explained away as the need for progressive gameplay, or the issues needed to model near-useless “broken” weapons, or an out-of-reach place your arsenal lies in, and et cetera. I know, I know, none of this really matters, but I just thought I’d stop lurking long enough to give my opinion.

Remember also that Barney gives you a crowbar in Ep1 and says he doesn’t have many more of them; I think that one is the one from BS, and the one in HL2 was Gordon’s original crowbar, given to him by Eli, who also gave Kleiner the HEV suit, and got them both from G-man.

That’s my theory, anyway.

I think that G-Man took all his weapons after Gordon killed the Nihilanth and that the crowbar Barney gives him in Half-Life 2 is another one, just to defend himself. Because he somehow knew that Gordon has fought his way through Black Mesa with a crowbar, he made this reference. In Half-Life 2: Episode One Barneys gives him yet another crowbar. I think none of these crowbars are the same.

or you know, it’s just a random crowbar

Something tells me walking into a hardware store and buying a crowbar isn’t quite as straightforward with the combine watching your every move…

because no stores means no crowbars?

Technically you see him 4 times if you count when you see him before he gets on the tram

:meh:

Barrrnaey Kaellhoone

He stares into my soul…

If that dinosaur isn’t a pedophile then I’m Gordon Freeman.

Barney taught me that 1+1 equals penis in mouth

I think Gordon got pretty well known about his services. The resistance knows about the crowbar, the scientists do, everyone knows.

is interesting that a crowbar became that famous just because a guy with a hev suit used it to save the world.

but of course; no one talks about that guy; people only talk about the crowbar…

Are you also fan of black text!?

Anyway, he didn’t save the planet he made it clear go for a superior alien race to conquest it! :fffuuu:

oh well it wasn’t his bad. Nihilanth could not control it

PS: The 80% of my messages contain black text so yeah, I’m a fan of it.

Ok, I’ll keep that in mind!

Pretty sure that Barney found a crowbar on duty during his work as a fake CP. He probably saw that gordon had one when he was being dragged away during his teleportation session at the end of blue shift. And he probably thought if he mentioned it when giving the a random crowbar to you, you would know what he meant. Crowbars a a common tool of work, they’re probably lying around everywhere in city17 seeing as how it’s an industrial looking evironment.

That was not the same HEV suit, so I thought. It was an upgraded version of the last ones, even so, there is way more than just that 1. (That 1 refering to the older HEV suit version)
