Barney Calhoun?

Why isn’t blue shift cannon? I mean I know opfor isn’t by the new aliens wich appeared through the story line and that G-man also wanted to put him on ectasy but Blue shift explains a really convincing story to be cannon on the hl2 series of how the f*ck Barney got out of black mesa with rossenberg and other two cowards… uhm… I mean… scientists

Gordon’s crowbar-related actions have been seen by other survivors and became iconic.
I also think barney’s “You forgot this back at black mesa” was just a pun related to that.
They knew each other before the incident, so I don’t mind if you just see him banging at the door and nowhere else.

And I do believe Blue Shift is canonic, since it compromises nothing else from half-life, barney is an important charachter and got out of black mesa. He saw gordon on the way out, that’s it.

bscly anything about the gearbox expansions is up to the individual until confirmed in later games

aw man. Do you belive that Valve will tell if any expansion is cannon or not someday? I mean, they are already doing hl2 and they did not say a word about if it’s cannonical or not…

that’s what valve said… canon is an invention by the fans, and previous elements are ‘confirmed’ when they reappear in later games

IMO OverWiki resolves the canon issues pretty well.

look what I found in the combine overwiki:

I don’t think a wiki entry that essentially says ‘we don’t know’ really proves your point.

I don’t say it’s cannon, I just say that if the surname appears on the credits in theory the game is cannon, after all it doesn’t have all the other aliens or weapons wich appeared on Op. Force…

Hmmm there are some valid points made about references to Gordan’s and Barney’s relationship. In my opinion, having extended time spent in-game with Barney for continuity’s sake in Half-Life 2 is irrelevant. Especially when you could just assume/imagine you have a long running relationship with Barney.

And, more importantly, who wants the team to have to remake half the game to include a lot more Barney?

Barney was transferred out of Sector C some time between becoming friends with Gordon and the events of HL. Deal with it.

/thread

After reading through everything, I have decided that I retract my suggestion.

Although, I still believe that Barney ought to be encountered at some point other than the tram, I also have come to the opinion of agreement with several points, the most of which, Gordon and Barney were friends before the Resonance Cascade, and even the comment about owing the beer, who’s to say Barney didn’t owe Gordon a beer before those events.

Besides… there is another point I agree with… who wants the Devs to have to work even longer to add in some scenes with Barney? We’re waiting patiently for this, but I don’t think any of us want to wait any longer than we have to. Not for something like this, which is wholly unnecessary.

good thinking boy! Anyways you already have a time to fight along barney in hl2, don’t need to have it in black mesa…

Barney shows up “Twice” in Half Life series. He shows up once banging on the door and then again in his teleportation out of Black Mesa. While playing as Gordan you see while being dragged by Soldier’s Barney glowing then you black out. Barney is really in middle of teleporting out of the facility with the other scientists. This is actually the only time Barney Calhoun and Gordan Freeman come face to face in the game.

If you played Hl: Blue shift at the end you jump through the teleporter just before it explodes. While teleporting you go through almost the same thing Gordan goes through in HL2, Only difference is you end up were you suppost to be not outside the Tele room. you get to see Gordan being dragged and then Gordan looks at Barney.

yeah, well he looks you in blue shift but in hl you can’t look him, the camera moves looking the two HECU wich are sending you to the… well you know what it is. I don’t know it’s name in english :frowning:

trash compactor I think.

Just pretend he is lurking in the dark…

Ahh the power of imagination ! I’m playing BM right now and it rocks :jizz:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
