maybe when he was topside he left barney a note somewhere saying ‘‘i haev a cruwbar’’ but it got cut out from the final game regarded as unnecessary sidetracking …
It’s a game. It doesn’t matter… however:
Freeman is well known following the events of Black Mesa where several personnel would have seen him making use of the crowbar.
Freeman was “relieved” of his weapons by the G-Man so Barney more than likely came across a crowbar withing City 17 and gave it to Freeman:
a) So he had a weapon
b) As a joke to Freeman’s crowbar related habits
play blue shift, end the game look the final scenes, barney sees gordon getting captured by two H.E.C.U. soldiers and the he teleports back in front of rossenberg and other scientists, I don’t know how did he get the crowbar after that but I know he saw Gordon getting captured.
Smack glass for crowbar
i dont think its the same crowbar … there are probably a lot lying around …
maybe gordon left a message on the crowbar like “if found, return to gordon freeman. (no reward)”
besides, i bet everybody has a crowbar in the half-life universe. barney’s quote translates to “hey, you dropped your wallet at the cash register” in real life.
play hl2DM, all rebels has crowbar. all the good guys of HL universe have it then too! :fffuuu:
then Gordon isnt that special after all :’(
Half Life 2 Deathmatch isn’t canon.
HL2DM Team Games could be considered the week that Gordon and Alyx were in the slow teleport.
Regular DM Games are when they all got bored and decided it was every man for himself.
Also, a huge shipment of crowbars arrived for the citizens to use and Eli mass-produced the Gravity Gun but it was a shoddy cheap knock off of the original and they all broke after a week.
Yeah ok, not canon.
we all know it wasn’t cannon, just to joke a bit about that of everyone in the hl universe has a crowbar and… wait… the combine doesn’t have any crowbar!
PWWWNNNGGH!!! But a funny-sounding stunstick.
I like to think that everytime a combine hits you with it, he giggles silently.
How come no one can get it through their thick skulls that all the ‘old times’ they speak of were events that occurred BEFORE the Resonance Cascade? Gordon and Barney were probably very good friends, but aside from Gordon seeing Barney while he was on the tram ride, they did not encounter each other during the resonance cascade.
sorry, but that still doesn’t make sense. unless gordon has a propensity for smashing things with crowbars, his crowbar rampage was way after he saw barney. i personally think the op’s suggestion is pretty cool. give barney a large role this time. the dialog in hl2 gives you such freedom, it would be a shame to miss this opportunity. he’s a cool character.
if this doesn’t make it in, it’s a cool mod idea, anyway.
I vote we leave it just to Barney being the guy pounding on the door. Since AFAIK Blue Shift isn’t cannon, Barney could be any one of the security guards you encounter in the game but that location still makes the most sense because its one of the only that you can’t kill.
The only way I see Barney having a large part in BM is in a non-canon 2 player co-op.
In ep3 there’ll actually be a scene where Gordon enters killbox_v2_remake to fight some combine. True story.
except it does make sense for two reasons:
- It’s a game. The crowbar reference is a throwback to HL1.
- People talk. Gordon is something of a legend by the time of HL2, and so are his crowbar-wielding antics.
imagine this - when the resonance cascade happened most of the people in the facility were trying to get topside fighting their way through the facility in any way they can and using any tools possible from a pistol or a gun to … you guessed it - a crowbar , so when barney says ‘‘you left this at black mesa’’ he just implies that you
might’ve used a crowbar back there …
or the rumors about gordon spread to barney too, because everyone knew about you in HL2, so barney probably guessed it.
