Atomic PC - BM Preview

So its no “miscommunication” on behalf of the dev team lol… if they had no idea that one rogue dev would give them access to the completed portion, then I’d say thats a total lack of communication.

Saying that the dev who took it upon himself to let them play forgot to tell them not to take too many photos makes no difference, letting them play it at all was a leak and the photos is just icing on the cake. i.e. the act of giving a gaming site a leak and then miscommunicating that they shouldnt take too many photos is funny

EDIT: even if what i said above makes no sense, i dont think this is the worst that could have happened. the leak coulve been released to the public and the mod being this close to completion would’ve complicated matters immensly; this is pretty much a “preview”, albeit a little earlier than intended by the devs

No, what I’m saying is that when there are thumbnails that give me easy one-click access to screenshots I’m going to click them out of curiosity, while I’d rather have it all be new when I play it.
You might call it a lack of self-control, but it’s really not an important issue in my life or anything so I don’t think it’s a terrible character flaw.

Glad I didn’t see them before they were removed or I would have definitely and thoroughly examined them.

but…your avatar…

im on to you :freeman:

just change a little here and there.

2010 wouldn’t have been 2010 without a BM leak.

So wait, if this was a leak by one rogue dev, then the entire Xen part wasn’t blacked out in an effort to keep the site from taking screen shots, because this wasn’t an orchestrated thing at all…

So… is Xen really not textured? Or whatever the “black” description meant. I didn’t look at any Xen stuff, and hardly any of the other stuff either.

I think my fav 404 quote fits about here

At first, i was incredibly happy. I mean, hey, it is really almost completed! Someone played it! All the waiting, and now there is a proof: its almost over!
But then…
Look at the reactions of the devs:
at first: short, pissed comments
later: no they weren’t authorized to take pictures, we blanked xen for the press release etc. (so the release was planned?)
then: someone did it without permission, it’s a leak.

It just sounds like there is huge anger in the internal section…
And that sounds like really bad news.

The Xen you see blanked out is from AM where you are teleported to Xen for a brief second.
Also, the build orcone had was not up to date.

We have Xen locked down so leaks like the following wont show its progress.

Maybe? Either that or the work done on Xen simply hasn’t been integrated into the build yet.

Speculation begins.

But isn’t all finished work managed by a SVN, so everybody always has the latest build?

Not trying to imply anything, just figured that all developers who have access to game files have access to all the latest game files all the time, but maybe Xen was somehow kept safe from this? idk

EDIT: speculation begun

Not everything is on svn :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s common to “branch” builds with SVN, so that significant systems which would cripple the game during the process of completing them can be worked on in their own environment without interfering with work or testing on other areas of the game. When complete, the branches are merged with the main SVN “trunk”, or patched.

With a game that has so many people from different areas of the world working on very different things and working on it a lot it would be very difficult to believe anyone had the latest build other than maybe the lead dev.

google Subversion

Shit guys, sorry about the leak. I’ve been following this mod on and off for at least three years now and it sucks that something like this happened so close to the end.

That said, it definitely had the effect of restoring my confidence about the whole project. I understand wanting to keep everything under wraps, but it’s nice to have something every once and a while to keep the morale up. Glowing write ups definitely help in that department.

And furthermore, if I may be so bold as to make a “speculation” on this topic, Xen being branched would imply that, since all map textures appear black in the leaked screen, the branched system is shader-related. So perhaps the big secret about Xen is some awesome custom surface shader.
