Atomic PC - BM Preview

Perhaps orcone isn’t a complete buffoon and left out Xen from the build he shared because he knows Xen is blacklisted. If he has Xen at all.

I say hang him from the highest branch

I looked. Sorry. No comment on the pics themselves, just to say - it’s obvious to me that an insane amount of work has taken place to absorb the player into the Black Mesa story, in the same way Half Life 2 did with City 17. You can see it in the vast array of tiny details here and there. By the sounds of the Atomic PC review, they spend far too long arsing about with the game to allow themselves to get into the story.

Well, the pics are compressed in JPEG so therefore the quality loss. They should’ve taken the shots in PNG format.

I believe the general consensus is that they should’ve not taken the shots at all, actually.

Sorry for the grammar mistake.

Is it just my fancy or did a couple of the shots have an anaglyph effect to them?

wow, It looks like they played it with shaders and lighting off.
Level geometry looks amazing though, it’s the textures that look bland, which is clearly not the problem seeing how every source game looks better that those screens in High Res. Low settings I guess.
And sorry, may I ask you one question Kane? Why would you give them the build to begin with?

EDIT:

That pretty much tells it all. Nevermind.

Yeah, I edited the post as you can see.

Funny thing is, people still get worked up when they see alpha le@k videos on youtube. And I don’t we’ve seen anything more than AM (+ a bit of QE, which is negligible).

I think most of the game is still a surprise. In this case the saying “a picture says more than a thousand words” isn’t really true.

We still haven’t played the game, felt the gameplay, heard the sounds, voiceacting and music. Also the majority of the screenshots is taken from a very early part of the game. At least I think there’s really much left to see on every part of the game. Keep the good work up, you have some really loyal fans around here.

The inevitable happened. It would’ve surprised me if there wasn’t another leak before release.

People need to learn to appreciate hard work, done on free time!
There are games out there, that you pay for, that don’t look that good.
Anyhow the game is not done yet. I don’t know why people get worked up about this.
To all those people that are not happy with what the mod looks like, wait for release, then use your uber mapping skills and all that and change whatever you want.
The Hatred Apocalypse is here! Bring friends! :meh:

Personally I think the mod is gonna be awesome! And now screenshot can do it justice even after release.
Good luck to all of you devs! “We” thank you for your amazing work!

At least nothing important got deleted

The people using the screens as some sort of basis for the entire mod are a bit odd. The article from Atomic is even misnamed a bit. 20% of the game would consist of at least the first 3 levels in their entirety. This is obviously not the case. As the devs keep saying, this isn’t the release version anyway! I’m goin with the devs on the attitude towards this “event.” It was an “oops” that shouldn’t have happened and teh interwebz has eaten the pictures and they can’t be saved. I haven’t seen any of the images yet and, while my curiosity is running wild, I don’t really want to see them. I try not to watch more than one trailer per game, or even read a 10-minute playthrough review. It spoils all the fun of discovery. I’ll assume the game is omgwtfbbq awesome and keep my sanity by playing SC2, Red Dead, and Age of Empires 2.

I’m one of the guys who knew nothing. A friend of mine, Sn1pe, messaged me when I was playing TF2 saying “lol those images of BM are so bad.”

Some people have asked questions about why we don’t like having this sort of hype. There have been answers from other devs; my answer is that being a mod, we don’t actually NEED publicity as much as anyone else. It takes up a lot of our time making sure what we’re showing is polished, answering questions, etc. We’re only concerned about making a good game; if only 100 people played Black Mesa and loved it, I’d be fine with that. If 1,000,000 people played Black Mesa and loved it, I might be a bit happier, but certainly not any richer.
With no need for any sort of publicity, there’s no reason to show anything, and it is in fact better to NOT show anything so there are no false expectations or theories.

I think the problem is that most of 13-year olds think that Black Mesa is a gaem

Truth is, BM is a social experiment designed to see how long people will wait for a game modification.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
