Atomic PC - BM Preview

how long have you had your screen name natedgreat3?

J/K.

Matt I meant no harm or insult. I was just trying to answer your question of why have them take the pics down. My short answer would be so that the devs dont have to spend the next 3 months answering questions about screenshots of an unfinished product.

well, not that i dont understand why they dont want them up there, but for the sake of a counter-argument to your answer that devs dont want people asking why everything in a photo is this or that, the answer could be ā€œyou’ll see when the mod comes outā€ just like the answer to the release date is ā€œwhen its doneā€.

EDIT: point is letting these pictures roam free wouldnt force the devs to answer anything

moot point I guess

I’m just happy that this thread turned out to be the real thing and not some troll nonsense.
I missed the screenshots (apparently that’s a good thing), but I like what I read in the article.

If you can’t find the images you want on Google, then you suck at the internet :stuck_out_tongue: We’re keeping them off of this board because we don’t want to tempt or spoil people who would rather wait for the full game.

By all means, seed them all amongst yourselves, we know better then anyone how foolish it is to try and censor something that’s on the internet. Just don’t post them here and cause poor TheeGoatPig to spoil himself and then commit suicide in sheer anguish.

The screenshots look so great (even with medium textures), I actually felt really bad for looking at them. Great job devs.

I agree and I didn’t ā€œmissā€ the screenshots, this is the best thing that’s been posted on this forum since the trailer! I have no idea why it’s so controversial for the dev team. Some of the shots are inspiring, like the agrunt in the tube, that scene compares favorably with anything in HL2. I mean, fuck man, compare the level of detail in the BM tram to the HL2 train:

On a very special episode of The Black Mesa Forums.

Matt, I’m one of those who would rather not see the screenshots, so I’m glad they’ve been censored, as I would definitely have taken a look at them if they were in the article or linked in this thread.
Anyone who does want to see them is free to search for them on google.

So what you’re saying is that you have no self-control, and you have no choice but to read every single thing which is posted on this forum?

Anyway, I have no say in what the ā€œrulesā€ are here, so whatever man. I’m just describing what I saw and why it’s awesome.

-snip-

Carry on…

From the one screenshot I looked at, I don’t really see how anyone could say it looks bad. It made me sh!t an entire Jersey barrier.

ive only seen a few, and it looks great, it’s everything i wanted it to be. However there seem to be some idiots out there expecting maxed out crysis level quality and of course trash it when they don’t see it to their standards.

Also, they’re pictures, you’re not going to get the best idea of what it looks like until your playing it yourself on a computer.

For me, the screenshots don’t really spoil that much, because they’re nowhere near the actual experience the game will provide. I mean, they’re just pictures. No atmosphere, sound or gameplay, just a single frame. Hell, you could even give me a screenshot of the nihilanth battle, and it still wouldn’t compare to the experience when I’m playing the game.

Sorry to hear about the leaky pictures devs.
Cool about the new press though.

I found the pics look at a couple and decide that it was enough. I think the devs handled the pics well. Since if you don’t want to see them you don’t have to but google yields good results.

imo gabe newell needs to pay the developers for doing this because they might attract sales for source based games, and also because it is a perfect tribute, and they should get royalties. if gabe newell does not do this, he needs to kill himself.

As a photographer, I hate it when people see my photos before I’ve selected and retouched them and I’m completely happy with them. That can take a while, so people always get nervous and angry when I don’t show them the photos.

I imagine that the same applies to Black Mesa, multiplied by infinity since it’s a huge project involving many people and lots of neurons.

On the other hand, keeping such a huge project from having leaks is impossible. Even the iPhone 4 got leaked. Okay, that was a stupid comparison, but I bet Apple went a long way to keep it secret, and they still didn’t manage.

I’m glad that the testers liked the mod and I think this is totally going to spice up interest now, whether they wanted it or not… And I doubt this will be a bad thing!

Gabe and Valve have expressed great interest in this project, but they’re not about to pour money into it for no reason.

I’m sure everyone here feels that the team deserve some sort of payoff but unfortunately its a sensitive area so I say we just sit back and enjoy this amazing project produced by a dedicated and selfless team.

It’s not really a ā€œleakā€ that we’re talking about, the developers gave a build to the press, and the press published screenshots.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
