those pics are pretty damn cool imo, but whats with all the chimp faces
And the BSODs?
No I meant the pictures GFreeman posts. they’re all broken images. Not just this thread but all the ones he posts in. I’ve seen the leaked images already. Wasn’t talkin about them.
not to go into any specifics but I applied a bit of photoshop to remove the jpeg shit and put them back in order and I have to admit I’m impatient to play BM more than ever.
I like the picture.
Why is it that my University has to break the internets anytime anything cool is happening online, I can’t believe I missed it. I may not post much anymore, but I still check the forum semi-regularly, and I tried several times to visit the site while the internet was acting up. Oh well, I suppose I can wait like most everyone else.
Edit:After reading Rammy’s post, I’ll withdraw my, “anytime anything cool is happening”, my heart goes out to the devs who have worked long and hard for the mod and are upset by the leak, and I hope morale improves and you can put this in the past. I’ll resume my busy life and try to restrain myself from looking up the leaked images, you’ve earned that much. Keep up the good work and I’m as excited as ever.
Well I know that the version that Atomic had is Alpha but I don’t know if the devs have a version much better (and gave an old alpha to atomic to test) or if they are currently in the Alpha state. Sorry if this was already answered but I only could find that the pictures were from an alpha.
They weren’t intended to be released, so all pictures are from WIP content.
It’s a great thing being an independent developer! I think every good thing in life is done because one enjoys it, and not because one wants to make money out of it. When there’s a good idea, and someone tries to make more and more money with it, it turns into cr*p.
The good thing with Black Mesa is that you guys are doing it for fun or because you just want to. You want a good game, and not a big audience or money. This is why it’s great.
I hope the leak didn’t put you off making the mod and that it won’t cause problems on the long run. When making a project of this size, stuff like this is inevitable, and there isn’t much you can do to avoid it completely. Even like this, this mod has leaked less than any commercial project out there.
And if you’re really doing this for yourselves, than a leak won’t change much, because what matters the most is to make an awesome game. And the game will be awesome no matter what. And I’m sure not many people have seen the screenshots compared to how many people will play the mod.
I’m not saying you should not care or that this is not that big of a deal. I’m just saying that it’s a necessary bad thing, the same way as all software has bugs, and everything that can go bad will eventually go bad.
I agree but not within the context of Black Mesa. If these guys created the idea of Black Mesa from scratch, then I would completely agree. There is really no idea to turn into crap when what they’re doing is taking an old idea and updating it. There’s not too much room for error unless they change things dramatically. And from what we know, that’s not the case. They’re sticking to the roots, updating it, and changing/adding minor things to make the game more challenging and enjoyable etc. I’m not saying it’s not difficult what they’re doing because I’m pretty sure it is. I would have no patience for this kind of thing. It would drive me nuts. But it would be different if these guys created the first Half Life themselves.
Which leads me to my next question. Does anyone know? With the experience of creating Black Mesa, do you guys plan on making your own game after this?
What if the team goes in one direction with something yet someone thinks they should have gone in a different direction. The crits are gonna be “omg you guys are goobers cuz you did abc instead of xyz! This suxors cuz you didnt do abc!”.
But even the most constructive criticism can only be taken so far when you are talking about someone elses work. These guys have stated over and over that they are delivering THEIR version and vision of the game. So love it, hate it, diss it or criticize it when it comes out, but in the end it is simply just another opinion that is no better or worse than the opinion of a dev.
Can a developer at least state what date the build given to Atomic PC was made?
The mod has been comprimised, it must now be redone from scratch, the supriseness will be unhindered.
:fffuuu: :’(
I’d assume it was a pretty new one considering the devs’ use of SVN repositories, but even if it is the very newest one from what I understood these photos aren’t a good representation of mod quality because A] the developer who is working on most of the screenshot parts said they are almost all unfinished and will look better, B] this may or may not have been shot on lowered graphics settings, and C] if photography is a hobby of whoever took those screenies… “don’t quit the day job”
Except that the leaked media is only of QE, AM, Inbound, and UC.
Release the mod
Release the mod
It is a shame that Atomic have released so many screenshots of the mod, as it may give some people the impression that this is what the final build will look like. I just hope everyone that has seen these images realize the following.
- The images that were released are poor quality JPEGs.
- That this build of Black Mesa is not the team’s latest work. i.e. Still Alpha.
- Most of the effects had been disabled. i.e. Reviewed on a lower-end computer.
After seeing the screenshots and considering the aforementioned factors, I’m sure Black Mesa will be THE best looking Source mod for many years to come.
Don’t lose faith BM Team. You guys still rock!
Released.
Thanks for the sum of info.
Perhaps the mod will be released by Valve after hiring the BM dev team and it is one of the three “surprises” that Gabe Newell hinted at in this month’s PC Gamer???
