Of course it is. I don’t know why they announce it at the same time as the console versions when there’s a 100% chance it’ll be delayed. I think they did the same thing with 3 and probably all the other games.

Bumping thread now that the game is out. Anyone have it yet, and is it any good?

It’s still the same old AC gameplay (pretty much exactly like AC3), but the setting and vibe (and graphics) totally kick ass.

I found it in a store for like 10 dollars, but I didn’t want to buy it.

Where did you see it for ten bucks?

For only 10 dollars, you should definitely buy it !

Nah, I don’t like Assassin’s Creed, never did. Either way, it was a mislabeling and they fixed it now.

is it the one where you are riding a horse in new england and there is an annoying guy sitting in back of you yelling that you’re going the wrong way? yeah hated that game

Just got the first one on GOG.com (60% off Ubisoft sale on at the moment) - something tells me it’s going to be a long time before I play Assassin’s Creed IV, regardless of its release date :stuck_out_tongue:

Not psyched for this game, but whatever it plays like the music is incredible.

I’ll get it when it comes out on PC, but from the sounds of it it’s more pirates than assassins.

The game is absolutely fantastic. It is, at it’s core, AC3…but it’s only all of the good and none of the bad. Think of it like this…AC2 was AC1 perfected whereas AC4 is AC3 perfected.

The setting is huge (gigantic free-roam ring of uncharted islands waiting to be explored? Moving from ship to island in real time?) Also, boarding ships is great, the islands and locales are VERY fleshed out and vibrant, and Edward is a great character.

I agree, it is more piratey than assassiney, but that’s kind of the point. Edward is a pirate first and foremost and [COLOR=‘1616’]witnesses most of the Templar/Assassin conflict from a third-person-perspective.

They announce it at the same time because while Ubisoft hates PC gamers they’ve learned to not make it as obvious. A “delay” looks a lot better than “we are intentionally releasing it a month later because we don’t want you scumbag thieves to take away from console sales”. Ubisoft has PC digital distribution to consider.

this game is so goddamn fun, being a pirate is what this series has always needed; I absolutely love the open world, this is the only sandbox I have truly enjoyed exploring, maybe because it’s so unique. The naval combat is incredible, too.

but omg ubisoft you need to improve the mechanics of the freerunning system if you’re gonna increase the detail of the world. I can’t run fluidly around on my own pirate ship rigging without falling forever to the deck of the ship because he got hung up on an awkward corner or didn’t climb where I wanted him to. It’s the exact same system as in Ass Creed 1, and they haven’t done anything to change it except that “don’t press A to sprint anymore” change in AC3. This doesn’t change the actual clunkiness of what happens when you run into a shape the engine doesn’t recognize, which happens far too often on your own ship. Since the ship is such a large part of the game, they really should have put time into making a freerunning system designed specifically for the awkward shapes of a ship’s rigging. It would have been worth it, and could easily have been recycled for every other ship. The combat is also incredibly awkward when boarding, since my own allies keep getting in the way and causing animation clipping.

Anyways, that’s my only complaint. In terms of gameplay, the game is wonderful. The pacing is perfect, much better than other AC games. The setting encourages exploration much more than others in the series, and being a murdering prick always manages to be realistic because at the end of the day, you’re a motherfucking pirate. You can do whatever you want. :pirate::pirate::pirate:

[EDIT: I also just made myself sad by watching a video showcasing the features available on the next gen consoles, and I’m playing on the 360. My game is ugly to my own eyes now. :frowning: ]

Does the game have normal walking-around ambient music like 2, bro and revs had? Or is it like 3 where it was only alert phases and mission sequences?

Yes, if you hang around taverns.

Wow, I just watched that video, and I must agree. I feel like a hobo. :frowning:

If I knew when (or even if) I’d be getting a next-gen console, I’d have definitely waited for all those cool effects.

Haha, I’ll just get it on PC. And then suffer, because the PC port will probably be awful.

They work a little longer at this and I’ll join you in your misery…

Because come on, PC ports.
