Aspect Ratio: all about it!

Whatever I do it stays at 4 : 3, and never switches to 16 : 9. Here’s a video I made demonstrating the problem: link. So does anyone know of this?

Well, that’s quite easy.
When you change the aspect ratio, you get different choices in the resolution box above. Then you actually have to pick a 16:9 or 16:10 resolution - if you apply the settings then, everything should work fine

you’ve got to choose a new resolution after selecting 16:9

Just choose the last one on the list.

Haha. Thanks. I feel like a retard now.

I selected Widescreen 1920x1080 and it seems to have permanently changed my monitor’s aspect ratio from its native 16:10 to 16:9.

This means about an inch of the right side of my screen is missing.

Any ideas?

Hi all,

So when I go to change the video settings, all my graphics settings apply, but no matter what I do the game still stays in 4: 3, with black bars on the side and all. I try switching to widescreen, but it never does anything and just goes back to 4: 3. Anyone else have this problem?

Greetings … this is my first here.

Just like to check with you guys what is the highest video res I can run using a Nvidia 560Ti card?

Getting the exact same problem myself, hopefully there will be a workaround soon.

Update your VGA Driver to latest version

Widescreen option will work

I had same problem few minuts ago

Update VGA Driver was Works for me

= Sorry for my horrible english skill =

If you mean what detail level you can run the game on, I’d say all maximum settings. I play on my laptop since I haven’t gotten around to rebuilding my desktop, and it runs on all maximum settings at 1366x768 on an Nvidia GeForce GT540M.

I’m having this problem as well, and don’t seem to have any drivers that need updates.

I have a widescreen monitor, and the game works fine for me. There is an option in the menus that picks between the different ratios; you sure you’ve got that selected as 16:9 or 16:10, depending on your monitor?

Proper monitor scaling is built right into the engine, so if you have issues, I would almost imagine you would have the same problems with Team Fortress 2.

exact resolution is limited by your monitor as well as your video card. I’d say with that card you can probably run the game at whatever highest resolution your monitor supports.

There options for video setting is very limited. My monitor can supports 1920 X 1200 and there is no such option in the setup menu.

Set the aspect ratio to 16:10!

I will post it here… shadow settings has option only for “low” and “medium” no high.
Is it because my computer can’t render it (so it’s not there) or because this mod simply doesn’t have high quality shadows? 0_o

I’m using an LED with native res of 1920 x 720 and the max res in the game is 1680 x 1050 which is fair enough (as far as I can see).
Anyone differ?

This is such an odd question. Why ask such a question when you can just try it yourself? Putting in the wrong settings will not cause your monitor to explode and send shards of burning plastic into your face…it just wont work.

What next? Questions about what happens if you press the letter ‘A’ on your keyboard?

Right, I installed BM and when it was done it had a checked box next to “Run Black Mesa” or whatever. So I did, and I fixed up the graphical options until I realized I couldn’t get to my screen resolution, which was 1600x900. No problem! Exit out and go into the Source SDK 2007 launch options and blah blah. So I run Source SDK 2007 but this time it’s starting up… Lost Coast?

How exactly do I run BM again? There’s nothing in the Start Menu or my desktop so where is it? How do I start it again?

In the steam client, click on the Library tab, it will be in your games list on the left.

Also, you can change the resolution in Black Mesa, you need to set the right aspect ratio first.

16:9 is the one you’d need for 1600x900.
