Ask an Atheist!!!

Depending on how he phrases it that could be an Atheist Agnostic or a Theist Agnostic.

If you believe in a god but do not claim to know that he exists then you are a theist agnostic.

If you do not believe in a god and do not claim to know that he doesn’t exist then you are an atheist agnostic.

Read his example. Based purely on that example, what would he be? He phrased it quite well I think.

Atheist.

Atheist.

He would be an Atheist Agnostic because he is not convinced to believe that god exists.

But what if he sometimes says “thank you” to the heavens out of gratefullness, just in case there is a G-d?

The guy in my example doesn’t “believe in” a god, he just thinks it’s more likely that there is a god than that there isn’t. He doesn’t believe or not believe, but his best guess is that there is one.

If he doesn’t believe in God, then he’s an atheist. Also, he’s a coward.

How would that work?

“i think there’s probably a god, but I’m not sure”

I’m honestly baffled as to why that’s so confusing.

If you think there’s probably a god, then you believe one might exist. You’re a weak theist, but still a theist.

I, too, am baffled as to why you people feel there’s nothing in between Atheism and Theism.

You’re right. There’s something between pregnant and not pregnant, lights being on and off…

Now, if you don’t mind, I’ll have to do something other than playing Half Life or not playing Half Life.

Believing a god might exist != believing a god exists. Not rocket science. It’s way too simple to even need an analogy, but since you insist on using a stupid one, we’d have to define “pregnancy” as not having any discernable physical signs and never involving childbirth (except after death, and also the child would be invisible). A woman who thinks shes pregnant would be theist, a woman who thinks she isn’t pregnant would be atheist, and a woman who doesn’t know if shes pregnant or not (but she did fuck bareback a couple months ago) would be… now you go:

I refuse to answer because the premise is flawed. An atheist does not “think she isn’t pregnant”. An atheist is simply “one that isn’t pregnant”.

Back to the original question, which, to date, there has been a refusal to answer:

Do you believe in God?

It’s a very simple question and it’s baffling to me why there is a refusal to answer.

Do.
You.
Believe.
In.
God?

Five words and you can’t answer! Incredible.

The sheer narrow-mindedness of danielsangeo is staggering. Atheism is the utter conviction that there is no god, just as theism is the utter conviction that there IS a god. Since I am yet to meet a pure atheist (who isn’t insane or lacking in basic rational thinking), I’d say agnosticism is a pretty common “belief”.

THANK you. Here I thought I was seriously missing something… Glad I’m not insane and somebody agrees that there is something between theism and atheism!

I’m sorry to say that you’ve the wrong definition there.

Atheism: The lack of belief in deities.

That’s all it is. The lack of theism. Why is this so hard? :expressionless:

Now I know why they believe in god, because they can’t make sense of anything else.

Name one rational person who has complete and utter belief that there is NO god whatsoever. If you find one I’d call them crazy.

Exactly. Nobody knows for sure if there is a god or not.

I disagree that people have to be crazy to not believe in it’s existence. I have seen and heard of many sane men and women who were/are atheist and I do not have any reason to doubt what they say or have said they completely believe… though it can get pretty heavy thinking about the void.
