Ask an Anarchist.

Eventually there will be an “ask a…” thread for everything, so here’s the Anarchist one ahead of schedule.

I believe that it would be possible, and beneficial, to exist in a government-less state. This doesn’t necessitate the eradication of all government, and at its most base form could just be the adaptation of volunteers to an autonomous, kingless society, which can happen right in the middle of any governing system.

So, if you’ve got questions about Anarchy, I’ve got answers.

If you mean anarchy without a president, emperor, king, god, sheikh, whatever. But with a government of some sort. Then yes, it might be possible. But wouldn’t be much of an anarchy, now would it.

But a people needs guidance in some form or the other, and the moment you transfer the roll of guide from one/multiple people to the other (the anarchists/volunteers), then the anarchy has already betrayed itself.

And if you just take away the guidance, you get chaos, and in said chaos, mankind will eradicate itself faster than it is doing at the moment.

Lets all team up and become anarchists!

When anarchy comes I call power over the nuke supply

somalia actually does alright considering

Oh yes, Somalia is an utopia.

Hay actually tho A lot of somalias problems come from outside influences. Ethiopian, US, etc military actions or Toxic dumping off their shores. How do you reckon a stateless country would deal with this stuff, vigilantism? What kind of diplomatic channels would be available? Somalias solution to the dumping problems ended up as the current piracy thing they have going on

Exactly. The “good” idea of doing something right, turned into a “oh shit, we can actually get away with this” idea, and they started plundering any ship or boat in their waters, regardless of its purpose there. Unstable individuals tasted power, they took power, they corrupted the power.

That’s anarchy for you.

Okay, this is going to come off as sounding needlessly combative, but I don’t really know how else to phrase it, and I’m not trying to be combative; I’m just trying to figure out the distinction:

What is the difference between libertarianism and anarchism?

It surprised me to learn that Noam Chomsky is an anarchist, what do you think of the guy?

Anarchists have waaaaaay too much faith in human beings. Communists, too. Say what you will about capitalism, at least it takes into mind the fact that all humans are complete dicks.

You think capitalism is a philosophy of government? Jesus…

Hi a real question here, is Anarchism a religion?

No, it’s just people wanting to get owned by douchebags with assault rifles.

As long as it’s not a religion, I have no problem with it.

Zing?

Psyborg has a point, most of us are turds.

It doesn’t matter if you want a government or not. People will still find a way to become powerful. It goes back to our most primal instincts of having tribes and packs led by alpha males. We are social because of this instinct to be led by one powerful person.

In anarchy, there wouldn’t be one leader. There’d be many. These would at first be simple gang leaders. And something tells me they won’t be as nice as your run-of-the-mill legislator. Let’s just say that, if you want to be powerful quickly, assault rifles are your best bet. In a few years, you’d have several powerful despots and dictators, loosely bound by their country of origin.

If you want an example, check out Haiti right now. The government’s pretty much collapsed and it’s every man for himself. It’s a complete fight for survival, complete with necessitated looting. Even the military, without complete leadership, has gone wacky, and have commenced riding around in pickup trucks and shooting AKs at people they think are breaking the law (AKA hunting for food in the rubble in order to survive).

Do you really want that? Do you really want a lawless nation where anyone can do anything? And where not-so-nice people will still come to power regardless of what you wanted in the first place?
