Because the world sees the pride and arrogance through stereotypes received through media, which these days, is pretty unreliable for a honest and fair reporting on the world.
Generally, I see non-Americans as pretty farking arrogant when it comes to talking about America.
No. It’s every American’s constitutional right to not participate in such activities.
Because we were all taught that America is the coolest kid on the block.
Kids are strongly encouraged to but they don’t have to. Unless it’s like for a big public ceremony or something where someone is singing the National Anthem.
Yeah, I guess we are misinformed. We are sorry. I say it in the name of all non-Americans.
No, seriously, you are right. But you must know we have our reasons, USA’s politics is not one of the best.
Why is USA the only country involved in so many wars? Do they really need to interfere with every “problem” that other countries have? Wouldn’t it be much better if they “interfered” in other problems, like poverty in Africa and Asia? Just because Cuba chose communism over capitalism, does that give the USA the right to make everything to exclude it from the rest of the world?
Why send troops to such a poor country like Haiti? Isn’t there any kind of diplomacy? Is it ok that the USA to use some Muslim’s hate against America as an excuse to invade their land (when the real reason is oil) and throw bombs to destroy entire cities, killing both bad people and citizens?
Well, I’m not saying that this is a fault that American people committed, it is more like a fault of your government. That I can understand, my country’s government isn’t example of good behavior. But, sadly, this government’s harm go to the people of this country. There are countries worse than USA, like China and Colombia, but you need to understand that the view from the outside of your country is not one of the bests.
I think I speak for the majority of Americans when I say: Our government sucks major ass right now. Please don’t generalize all Americans with the decisions of our country. Although, I’m not sure where you’re going with the Haiti statement. We’re pouring probably more money into Haiti right now than we can afford.
Well I’m a Canadian living in America and I mist agree with Garth: Living among the most hated people in the world sucks. I’ve met many wonderful and amazing people here who have the intelligence to change the world in so many ways, but unfortunately their talents are squandered by the dumb asses with money and power.
There are far too many people here who use their wealth as an excuse for arrogance, and bring that arrogance with them when they travel abroad (since they’re rich they can do that).Because of this, people of foreign nations get an even stronger sense of hatred and stupidity from Americans.
I’m not saying “DEATH TO AMERICA” here, but I definitely think there should be some IQ/Arrogance level ban, restricting all of the stupid people from
a) leaving the country
b) appear on television
c) Publish books
d) be taken seriously
I’m all for first amendment rights, but there comes a point when you have to realize, not everyone is created equal. Some are just to fucking stupid to quantify.
Now that’s just mean, I don’t think we’re far enough to actually measure intelligence so things like that aren’t ethical or efficient. And that system would easily be abused.
I agree with you for the most part there, especially on the measuring of intelligence part. But sometimes people are just so stupid, arrogant and straight-up annoying there needs to be something to get rid of at least SOME of them. I mean come on, they’re giving all of the smart people here a bad name.
America just has a lot of foreign interests, that’s what makes America the world super-power it is. A lot of the problems in the middle east (despite the countries/worlds dependence on oil) is the fact America is sided with Israel, we train their army and they rely on the US for economic stability. With any history lesson about the middle east, everyone knows about the conflicts on who the Holy Land belongs to and a lot of Muslims hate America for supporting their enemy in their struggle for the holy land.
Fundamentalist America is terrified of communism, we have been for a LONG time, America’s irrational fear of communism has caused everything from the Vietnam War to the US-Cuban embargo. A lot of Americans today still fear Communism as if we were still in WW2, people go as far as calling Obama a communist for wanting socialized healthcare, but these are the same people who can’t distinguish between communism, socialism and fascism. What’s worse is these people have influence on who becomes elected. Most politicians are more concerned with being reelected than making a progressive and intelligent vote in the House or Congress, which is a reason American fears older than my parents still stand today. Such is democracy.
I think a lot of Haiti and our involvement is trying to not make the same mistakes as George W. Bush made with the Hurricane Katrina and the city of New Orleans. Even in our home land we didn’t send aid fast enough and all hell broke loose. With Haiti, the damage is ten fold and for how close Haiti is to America, it would be crazy for a country that will invade countries on the other side of the world, spend trillions of dollars in weapons but not use our non-deployed military forces to supply aid to the one place in the world that needs it.
No, and that’s why most Americans today think the war is atrocious.
there is a big difference between a soldier who is defending his country “while” he is inside his country, and a soldier who went envading another countries while he enjoys killing, raping and torturing it people, Iraq rings a bell ?
to be honest I feel sad for you cause you are brainwashed into thinking that everything non American is evil and it’s worth fighting against it
and in my humble opinion a soldier is no different than a murderer only that the Soldier have the license to kill
haha… ahh yes… the strong ‘encouragement’ as a kid where you are given the illusion of choice… unless ofcourse you make the ‘wrong one’… =p
Almost every school in existence is guaranteed to have a hawk-eyed nazi teacher who will spot and take aside kids who are not pledging or whatever they’re meant to be doing and flay them alive before returning them to their seat where they WILL make their pledge or die.
As much as I agree with part of what you are saying regarding the bush administrations foreign policy, labelling soldiers as sadistic murdering rapists and labelling people who are simply glad that they have a world-class military force protecting them as anti-non-american sociopathic xenophobes will get you nowhere. Your argument loses all credibility and just makes you sound like a naive idealist with your head in the clouds who believes the establishment is evil for reasons unbeknownst to all but your good self.
Now I have a positive question to ask that will help build understanding between cultures. Explain your concept of what a biscuit is… and how it differs to the British/Australian definition. Both in production and culinary application.
I didn’t mean when the troops where sent to help with the earthquake that occurred recently, but, never mind, I was misinformed. It was an invasion in 2004, but the US had nothing to do with it, it was actually leaded by Brazil, by request of the president of Haiti. Shame on me
EDIT:
That rings me a bell. Charlie Chaplin, in Monsieur Verdoux:
