What is it like being thought by Euros as a stupid American even though we all know they’re just being really jellyous!
I hate prejudices of all kinds. When most uneducated Germans see an American on TV doing something stupid, they laugh out loud: “Hahaaaa stupid Americans!”
But when they see an American doing or saying something intelligent, they mumble: “You know, for an American, he is fairly decent.”
Always implying that Americans are a bunch of dumbasses. And, what is worse, implying that nothing SO DUMB could EVER happen in Germany.

Well, at least the stupid ones that buy every bullshit the TV and the BILD magazine (equivalent to THE SUN or FOX NEWS on paper, sort of) show them.
I mean, just because some private TV channels often show hilarious scenes from American TV shows, many Germans now think that the people on the “Jerry Springer Show” are representative of the American people. It’s the old “haha we are better than them” attitude, and most of us are falling for it, apparently. Sad, very sad.

That’s okay. Americans, by and large, are stupid. Stupid people are fine (I’m stupid in a lot of subjects). It’s the arrogance of many Americans (“It’s the best country on Earth!”) coupled with stupidity that causes, in my opinion, this stereotype to exist.
And, before anyone says that arrogance+stupidity is not a part of the existence of this stereotype needs to get more educated about the arrogant stupidity of too many Americans.
But then again, arrogant stupidity is not simply an American trait. I see it in other nationalities as well. As you say, Danson, about many Germans.
