I didn’t mean to imply that England=Britain. I was simply using England as an example, as the Viking invasions of England are probably the most well known.

Yeah, I jumped to the conclusion that all Americans regard the UK as synonomous with England…Incidentally those pesky vikings invaded Scotland, Wales and Ireland too… Hence my curious mixed heritage…

Not really. Vikings were a people (group of tribes) that originated in Scandinavia, some of which went out and settled and/or conquered large parts of Europe and Russia, not unlike their Germanic ancestors who did it by land rather than water.
