Ask a Norwegian person questions!

In this thread you can ask all the questions about us Norwegian post-vikings that you can think of (that makes any sense).

what’s your stance on the use of spell check?

did I spell anything wrong?

Grammar Nazi detected.

You spelt sense wrong. At least I think he is referring to that.

oh, yeah. I was unsure about that one. Thanks for mentioning, I will fix it immediately.

we don’t need one of these thread for every fucking type of person :hmph:

what is it about Norway/Norwegians that spawned church-burning goth blackmetal freaks?

I don’t think that we have any more “goth blackmetal freaks” than anyone else. What i DO know, is that we had Norse mythology as our main religion until about a milennia ago, sometime before the first
“stave-churches” were built.

Some of the “goth blackmetal freaks” uses the Norse mythology as their religion and the most extreme of them sees the stave-churches as a symbol of the religion (christianity) that took the Norse mythology’s place as the “true” Norwegian religion. Therefore, they wanted to destroy these symbols to strenghten their “religion” (or something like that).

It could also be that they did it to look cool.

If i remember correctly the church-burning was done by a few individuals. It’s been many years since the last church-burning. that does not mean that we’ve run out of these:

Although we only have 28 left.

I hope this has been an informative post

EDIT:

But we need something to talk about. :expressionless:

maybe, maybe not, but you did invent them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth_subculture

According to wikipedia, it was the british who invented them. We invented the cheese slicer.

Yes, I know that wikipedia is an unreliable source.

im talking about black metal/church burnings, the coincidence of which were Norwegian in origin.

Well, they have to do something productive instead of being anti comformist.

How’s climate over there. I suspect it’s not as cold as some claim?

I’m disappoint.

Because it will always be more attention to something being destroyed if it is ancient and considered a national treasure instead of say, 10-20 years old.

Wooden churches burn better than granite ones.

There’s several ancient wooden churches in Norway.

Combine these and you got yourself something close to a reason!

This winter has been the coldest one in southern Norway since the fifties with temperatures around -14 degrees (celsius).

Today we’ve had a nice 18 degrees celsius in the shadow. A perfect day to mow the lawn and starting to look like a redneck from behind.

ouch.

EDIT: sorry for the double post, it was an accident.

How is it to live in a place that nobody gives a fuck about?

Good enough, except from a distinct lack of Half-life fans. :expressionless:

Why is Norway so god damned awesome?

Also, being that the infamous church burner was recently released from prison, was there any sort of news coverage about Varg Vikernes’ release?

(The face of Mr. “Goth” Black Metal church burning, murdering Neo-Nazi Varg Vikernes)

Also, this here book does a really good job explaining the whole ideas and such behind the burning of churches.

Varg has a very low opinion of that book https://www.burzum.org/eng/library/lords_of_chaos_review.shtml
