Ask a Muslim!

Atheists are looked upon worse than Muslims in Hollywood media. Every single atheist is stupid and needing help.

At least some Muslims in Hollywood are fine.

thats bullshit man

it’s not about religion my friend, it’s about an entire PEOPLE[/SIZE] !

This just in: Hollywood is not reality.

ever heard of the old saying “Kids see, Kids do” ?

Yes. It’s bullshit.

Too many people actually believe this. When was the last time all Hell broke loose when someone depicted Jesus in an unfavorable light in a political cartoon, for example? Muslims just seem to be unable to take criticism of their religion.

there are plenty who would totally lose their shit over a cartoon dissing jesus but what wouldn’t happen is they wouldnt be put on the news with the implication that 2 billion other people are a homogeneous group that feel the same way.

how fucking dare people get annoyed at things designed specifically to offend them by violating one of their strongest taboos. from a culture that is actively hostile towards them. what is wrong with those backwards-ass sand niggers why do they hate mmmyyyy freeedooomss aghjgfj

We know better if criticism is right or total bullshit so you can’t say that we can’t take criticism.

I don’t think the point of the discussion relates to their anger about religion in this instance. I think the point of concern is more about depicting them in a negative light generally as a people.

In this respect, I would say that yes, muslim/islamic people are portrayed negatively in the media. It’s a negative stereotype, and negative stereotypes are bad. This is how the media works though. To say there isn’t honest depictions of muslim/islamic people in any form of media isn’t true. Is there a bunch that do? Well, yeah. Look at how black people, irish people, french people, german people, and on and on are portrayed. It’s a negative stereotype. Media is FULL of negative stereotypes. muslim/islamic people aren’t special. How many movies have an angry black guy? a folksy drunken irishman? a snobby frenchman?

Should it be done? No. Is it bad? Yes. Should it change? Yes. Will it? Probably eventually. But it depends on societal factors. Societal views change slowly. I wouldn’t hold your breath. Yeah it sucks, I agree there.

why should anyone wait and why would views change by themselves anyway with the media constantly spouting propaganda that only reinforces peoples prejudices. its a feedback loop and its getting worse not better

I didn’t say wait. I said it would be slow. Public media is influenced by public opinion, which is based on societal pressure. It’s not really okay to make a flagrantly racist movie about black people. Do you think that happened overnight? Do you think that societies view changed because it was changed by media? No media changed as society changed. You can’t approach this backward.

They key is to influence the society that creates the media and public opinion. Awareness is a great start, but like I said it will be slow.

This is where I’m coming from. Muslims claim persecution when in reality they are as negatively portrayed as everyone else. The only legitimate claim they have is discrimination at airports, but to me this is justified (almost 100% of people who have tried to blow up a plane or other such acts have been arab in appearance.)

do you srsly not understand the difference between stereotypes that are just used as shorthand by lazy writers and blatant propaganda

im not even touching that racial profiling thing you said besides fuck you being held by the tsa fuckin sucks

only god can judge me

What about these “honor killings” ?Who the hell started that??

  1. around 0.001% of people with an arab appearance have committed terrorist acts on the usa
  2. racial profiling is never justified :hmph:
