Ask a Christian

It actually kind of interesting. You can actually see how it is a patched together mess. The writing style and language combines with the changing of Yahweh ( god of war ) from one of many gods, to a single god. The death of an innocent man gathering sticks because it was a Sunday.trying to read the old testament ( which has been changed completely over and over again ) is very interesting when trying to figure out what is going on, because it’s been butchered SO much that it no longer makes any sense. It’s kind of like reading the journal of a psychopath.

PS - I like to play a little game called ‘count the contradictions’. Try it. It’s loads of fun!

Do you think the jews will build a temple in 2060 and then the world would end? (Conspiracy from if you try to “decode” the book of revelation)

protip: revelations was written by some crazy fuck who was exiled from the roman empire and then decided to write a huge rant about it (he was probably hallucinating too)

It was “translated” by Isaac Newton, and LSD wasn’t made before around in the 1900s or something…

And these existed before the year 100 in the middle east?

Nope all the plants that have those types of chemicals in them just materialized yesterday.

Anyway on topic:

The bible is one of the best selling books of all time.

The bible is also one of the least read (in its entirety) books of all time.

Christians, I suggest you actually read the whole bible sometime, it helps to actually know what you believe rather than have your pastor tell you for you.

i didnt even mention drugs or other chemicals or anything, fuckface

Apparently Judgment Day happens on my birthday this year. Go figure.

I hereby reserve the right to get completely plastered when the meteorites start falling.

cant wait

Lucky bastard, I hear God will give a free pass to heaven as a birthday gift to those who were born on March 21 :frowning:

Seriously now, can’t wait to see some Christians’ dick faces when the judgment day doesn’t happen. That will be epic

Don’t worry, they’ll treat it as they do everything else.
(what is this? A giant amount of proven facts contradictory to our claims? Indisputable proof? Thousands of well supported arguments and explanations?)

Pretend like it never happened or was insignificant. If there is a press release it will be something like “It’s part of god’s plan” or something.
The thing that christians are best at, playing ignorant. Wonder why.

I keep missing these judgement days. Can someone warn me the next time one is supposed to happen?

But I don’t even know about this judgement day… :expressionless:

Yes, but for a few seconds they will make dick faces. They will gather in squares, streets or churches waiting for Jesus to come.

On a second thought, I wouldn’t like to see their disappointment. That will be too sad.

Yes, the biggest problem of Christianity. They had their coming and the end did not happen. And now they are waiting for a second one. And then a third one.

Maybe that’s how God punishes people who take everything literally, instead of thinking.
Life-long latency.

Basically this says believing in something without physical evidence for it is worthless.

And thats true.
If you believe in God just cause you feel like it, thats a pretty meaningless, shaky faith. As a Christian, I look to the Big Bang, the information of the universe, the reliability of the scriptures, and the logical consistency of its message and conclude that the dragon described in the Bible exists.

(God is not a dragon. For some reason I feel like I have to clarify that)

I’m sorry but all four things you mentioned could be attributed to anything from God to dragons to, well, the Easter Bunny. Again, why “God”? Why not “the undetectable dragon”? Have you checked out the other religions as fervently as you’ve checked out Christianity? Have you tried believing in other deities to see if you can find evidence for them? If not, why not?

Again, I don’t wish to come across as an asshat, but I’ve never got a straight answer beyond “It’s just a feeling”. I would really like to know. I’m down on my knees, begging and pleading for an answer. I don’t understand the reason for the evasion. I have no ulterior motives. I don’t want to bash. I don’t want to condescend. I just want to know.

This is “Ask a Christian” and I’ve asked Christians… and have been labeled a “basher” because of it. Will I get an answer to the question?

Why do you believe in God and not something else? In the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams advances the notion of the “Great Green Arkleseizure” and how the universe was sneezed out of the beast and that the end times come from the Coming of the Great White Handkerchief. It sounds rather silly on the outside, but doesn’t Genesis sound equally as silly? No? Why not?

Also, the scriptures aren’t reliable.

EDIT: Burb, guga, Ross, Into, others… I appreciate your input in this thread, but I really just want a Christian to respond to this.

I’d like to stress this part.

I did actually get the following quote from a Christian: “Well we can’t take the bible literally because it was written by man.”

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
