Anyone else getting NS2?

The dynamic infestation visuals, as shown above.

The floor, look at how bubbly it looks - if it were “deflated” and less circular it would look more natural on the ground.

Why wouldn’t organic fleshy growths on the ground be bubbly?

Played it a bit today, just exploring a map solo. Game needs some serious optimization. It doesn’t look much better than Dead Space 2 and it runs a lot worse on my machine.

Other than that, looks like a great modernization of the original mod.

Played a couple of games, i’m still a complete noob. But I enjoyed it, there’s a lot to learn though.

…Balls, if this is true, then it’s really unlikely that I’ll be able to run it decently on my crappy rig.

I’m almost afraid to ask, but what are your specs?

Quad-core AMD 3.4ghz, 4gb ram ddr3, Geforce 9800GT 1GB.

The GPU is by far the most outdated thing in my rig.

I just became aware of this game. About to familiarize myself with it with some videos before I get it.

So I just gave it a whirl in explore mode; it was playable but I had about 10 FPS, so I can’t really say I’ll be playing it that much, if at all.

Got it. It’s very cool and a lot of fun, but man do I wish I had even half a clue of what the hell I’m supposed to do. All I end up doing is running around looking for people/aliens to kill, or pressing e on stuff the commander asks to be built. I have no idea what to do or where to go unless the commander sends a signal for me.

It’s sort of a mix between RTS and FPS. Some guy will take the position of commander and have top down view of the map like a RTS and assign goals to soldiers and build stuff in order to help the team completely obliterate the other team’s base.

In other words, you’re doing it right.

I come back, and NS2 is released and it has dynamic infestation. And apparently they are fixing it soon so it spreads properly like the old video.

And now there’s a bunch of noobs.

I am excited.

EDIT: shit I guess the new infestation tech set them back performance wise because it was running about 4x better before it was implemented.

Yeah, I noticed that my framerate plummeted whenever I went anywhere near an infected area. It’s a shame, I’d love to try out the game.

The tutorial videos are actually quite useful. I also disregarded them myself but I watched the overview from the training menu, and despite the “use WASD” stuff it actually explains the game and what you should be doing very nicely.

I think for new players it should pop up and play automatically as soon as they enter the server browser as a sort of “welcome”

Of course, you could always watch it here as well:

EDIT:

This is my new desktop background, courtesy of Deluxe Edition:

I didn’t get the deluxe edition because I got one of the free copies. :frowning:

How did you get a free copy? I want one.

Anyone who was in the beta got a free copy to give to a friend. I bought the beta in a christmas special a while back, so I got 2 copies with beta access for the price of one, so I basically got 3 free copies, 1 deluxe, and 2 standard - 2 of which I have given to my friends (1 is afraid he will suck at playing so he hasn’t played yet, the other has been quite busy) and I have 1 more which my sister wants, but I’m not sure if I want to give it to her yet.

I’d be a better sister than her  .

How are your specs? It still needs optimization (the new tech they added was a really bad idea to do right before release) so if you have a multicore CPU with a lower clock speed (below 2.9) it might hurt a bit.
