I generally prefer subs if I can get them…although if I start watching something with a dub, I’ll generally prefer dubbing for that particular one, as I’m used to their English voices now.
Case in point: Evangelion. I watched the series dubbed. Then when I watched the movie, there were only subs, and it was weird as shit hearing the main character’s voice go up about two octaves.
Although that was only one of many weird as shit things in End Of…
To me, Spike Spencer iS Shinji ikari. … Period.
Like you, i saw Evangelion in English first. i hadn’t heard the Japanese cast until i saw the newest movie which just, by the way, came out in the US. i saw a fansub first and was like :hmph: because i was so used to the English cast.
I like the way anime looks, but I dislike how it’s used.
“In the future, an evil robot demon raises an army to destroy the world and have tentacle sex with lesbians! It’s up to an pissed off teenage boy that kind of looks like a girl, and his busty “not”-girlfriend to save the world using their mech battle suits (the girl’s mech suit has specially made breastplates, btw.)”
But then agian, Metal Gear Solid is pretty much anime if it were inspired by the most badass Western action movies ever (Die Hard, Rambo, From Russia With Love etc.), had strong political themes, and great voice acting.
Oh man, I had forgotten about those new movies. Have you looked at them? Are they any good?
Ehhh, maybe the older stuff (Gundam, etc.) is like that. Not so much, now. If you want something kind of similar to MGS, try Cowboy Bebop. It’s got a lot of the stuff you mentioned there…strong political themes, Western-influenced (though if you REALLY want western influence, go with Trigun.)
To my knowledge, giant mech anime is pretty much over. The most recent one I can think of is Gurren Lagann, and imo that was more of a parody.
If you want to complain about anime, complain about the CURRENT bullshit genre: the emo stuff. Death Note is the first thing that comes to mind.
EDIT: Ninja’d by Grey. FYI, if you plan to check out Trigun and have the time to do so, read the manga. It’s about a hundred times better than the anime (which wasn’t bad itself). You don’t need to buy it…just do what I do and go to Borders or Barnes and Noble and read it on the weekends.
If you’re referring to the movie, it must have been a while since you last watched it. I thought as you did, a few months ago…then I watched the movie again.
there are many anime i haven;t watched for many yrs, so i am re-watching Trigun atm…
i just LOVE its opening theme. plays air guitar to the theme
then prolly rewatch Full Metal Alchemist afterwards “READY STEADY GO” WOOTAGE lol
One Piece is my favorite, though I don’t really watch the anime that often. I’m getting 3 DVD sets for Christmas though. Berserk is another awesome one. Dark fantasy sort of with plenty of gore and nudity for those interested. The story is also very good. Though the anime ends incredibly early in the series.
Yeah, I feel the same way. I got weirded out when I watched the director’s cut of the series and discovered that this guy’s voice actor was completely different:
Learn to analyse. I have the movie all laid out and logical in my head.
i have to say i prefer subs than dubs, after watching tons in subs back in high school.
Shinji voice in English for Evangelion was waayyy too :what: for me after getting used to japanese version. i guess it does depends which one you watch first.
Outlaw star has good opening theme too “through the night”. it is good anime from what i remember back then.
now, anyone ever heard/watched s-CRY-ed (s.CRY.ed or Scryed)? its basically Japanese version of X-Men. i don;t know i think i liked this version of “mutants” >.< the opening theme "Reckless Fire"sounds like remix of Ricky Martin but in Japanese and better >.<

if i am going to read, i’m going to read the manga. Really that’s it, i refuse to watch subs why watch them so that i get a better telling of the story when i can just read the manga and get the best. I watch anime so i can watch the show not focus on the bottom of my screen.
