Which do you prefer? Subtitled or Dubbed?
I prefer Japanese animation the original language, Japanese.

No thanks.
Then don’t post. Is it really that hard to understand?
I for the most part prefer dubbed because I can actually understand it by just listening. Quality does make a difference however and some, like Berserk and Jojo, I can’t watch dubbed. Most of the shows I watch however have fantastic dubs so I watch them like that. Overall though I prefer manga to anime.
okay… why did you post?
Was that necessary?
d’oh. we took the bait. He wanted attention from his 2 word post and we ate it.
With anime I prefer dubbing because its much more visual. but with foreign movies its subtitles all the way.
Just for me, listen to original Dub is better then listen to english dubbed, i prefer English subtitle.
Definately with foreign movies I watch them with subs just because the mouth flaps not matching bugs the hell out of me. It’s not really a problem with anime though. There are some fantastic dubs though such as Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.
Definitely subtitles. You find very few good, quality dubs. The only example I can think of off the top of my head is Blood+, and maybe FLCL.
Subs
Dubs suck and sound like shit.
Well, it seems that there is a lot of opposition to dubs around here. Well, I’m going to list some of the anime that I’ve seen that have good dubs.
Cowboy Bebop
One Piece
FLCL
Samurai Champloo
Monster
Death Note
Rurouni Kenshin
Yu Yu Hakusho
Giant Robo
Akira
All Ghilbi Movies
Naruto and Bleach also have pretty good dubs even if the shows themselves aren’t very good.
There are probably countless others that I haven’t seen too.
I was brought up watching Dubs when I was younger, so I kinda prefer them because of conditioning.
Anyone seen Outlaw Star? Or am I gonna get shunned…?
I just watched about 10 seconds of it just now. wow the dub is hilarious in a bad way.
Space battleship Yamato is a much better science fiction anime anyway.
I remember watching OS way back when it was on AS and I remember somewhat liking it but I haven’t seen it in a while.
Did you watch that nonsensical drivel at the very beginning of the first episode? I honestly don’t know what went wrong there, but trust me it gets a lot better very quickly. It’s actually pretty cool, I’ve got the entire series on DVD. Don’t think they ever made a 2nd season, or if they did, then it never hit the west…
oh okay, I’ll watch the anime. (most Animes are in fact 26 episodes)
and you’re right the dub is not as bad as I thought.
What’s cool is that it has the original voices on the disk so I’ll try and find it at blockbuster or something.
Trigun is one of the few Anime that manages to be just as good or possibly even better with the English dubs. Oh My Goddess OAVs are good in that way too. Generally as long as the dubbing quality is high then dubbing is preferred, but getting decent English dubbing is rare so English subtitles generally end up as the better option.
