And Ibanez takes the plunge!

Flowing water? :fffuuu:

Geez, guys, don’t expect too much of me or anything. :fffuuu:

Wait, I just realized something. Does the source engine support non planer water? Because as I think back I have never seen anything but.

well that answers my question. Seams like a strange stipulation.

Well what you’ve managed to do is already loads better than my first attempts:

I am/was/probably still will be a detail n00b. :frowning:

how long have you been editing?

and no, source still does not support non planar water.

Since '07-ish.

There’s pretty decent looking flowing water in this video:

Alos, frikin’ nice ass first map, my first attempt at a map in hammer was a portal map, and it was just a cube room… :frowning: It was also my very first attemp at editing anything to do with a game. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s an animated texture with splash effects at the bottom.

Ah, my bad, still , I thought it looked pretty decent, but I suppose you only get a distant look at it. It’s a pretty funny video anyhow. :stuck_out_tongue: How else would they make flowing water anyway? I have absolutly no idea. I remember Blue Shift had flowing goop on xen that was an animated texture as well, but it looked terrible! The goop went around a corner and the textures were like broken in half and stuff. hahaha

The only way as of now is to either use:

-Particle Effects - There are 2 waterfall particle effects and a pipe leak effect that exist in Orange Box, but the waterfall ones don’t work very well and they aren’t used in the official games IIRC, though the pipe leak is used in Ep2.

-or Animated Scrolling Textures - Which is easy, but looks cheap and isn’t very convincing. This method is used in cs_militia in CS:S.

Whoa, easy fellas. I never said anything about splashing/flowing water. I’m happy with sticking underground for now, maybe dark woods if I venture outside. Similar to Afraid of Monsters.

Do caves. Work your displacement skillz! :retard:

Nice work

Though I hope this doesn’t mean you’re giving up on Dark Forces :frowning:

I messed around with Hammer a little and managed to make a room, though it was too big so I tried making it smaller and it got too small. All the awesome maps being posted here are making me sad of my own crappy skills. Meh, I’ll look up some tutorials. Are you going to put any monsters or anything in your map? If so are they just going to be from HL2 or something or are you going to model your own?

Updated pictures of both areas:

Wow, that’s brilliant man! Great work! I really need to get my act together with my hammer learning curve. :tired:

The dude on that chair should see a doctor.

Awsm map - want MOAR!

Agreed :3

Great work so far! I wish I could do something like this…the only question I have is this…if it’s in a basement, why is there grass sticking up through the floor? Not being nitpicky, just curious I guess.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
