Regarding the people who would bitch about release, they’ll always be there. Ignore and delete.
Dev (in wiki, various forum posts): Update, update, update, update, update, update, update
Visitor: y u no update?
Dev: Check the wiki and the forum.
Visitor: i no chek, y u no update?
I know, it’s true, but what are you going to do? People are stupid. Maybe there could be a small text box that displays recent wiki updates on the homepage, I think that would help a lot. Maybe I should actually put that in the suggestions thread.
show us a recent update from the forums then.
What?
Vormaen, you’re absolutely right. Just seeing a comment from a dev gets me excited like I did on christmas as a boy. If they just gave a simple comment like, " Mod is going as planned, nothing to worry about here. ", than I would feel good for a week. By giving that, it feeds us for a while till we get hungry again. We are so hungry now, that small things make us so happy, but we want more because small things can’t feed an entire desire. They need to make a big comment letting us know what is left and if it is on schedule or not. Send a pm to a moderator or something and they can tell us – anything.
Specific updates like this would be dangerous to give, because, as has been said countless times before, people would interpret them to mean anything. “They’re having trouble with Xen? OMGWTF ITZ NEVER COMEING OUT” The only affirmation that they’re working that I need is all the hours logged in Source SDK and in the mod itself. Not to mention all of the team members are highly skilled, and as has been said, if they weren’t making deadlines, they would be cut from the team.
From today:
You won’t get information on how the mod is progressing because they’re purposefully withholding the information. The reason? CatzEyes said “don’t expect anything for two months” and the community went ape saying that it’ll be released in March…when she didn’t say that at all. Anything that is said regarding release of the mod will be misconstrued by SOMEONE. So, to keep that from happening, they’re intentionally keeping mum. Sorry if that bugs you, but the devs continue to post on this forum and sometimes in the Wiki. If it were dead, they wouldn’t bother with these forums anymore.
Only stupid people take stuff out of context. And stupid people are gonna bitch anyways, so don’t let them ruin our fun. That is a pathetic excuse that does nothing but hurt yourself. Don’t let me ever hear that garbage again.
People still do that now from anything, and then they get shot down and called retarded, because if you really think this mod isn’t coming out after 6 years, you are retarded.
@jethro
Honestly I have checked the Wiki, and it’s difficult to find what I am looking for. Maybe the apt proposed newest addition might help. Dev blog stops at 2008. The timeline didn’t help either. Perhaps it’s because you folks access this more than I. Like I said, I usually squat over at MODDB so I can check up on the MERP project. Those updates I can follow, no matter how minute they are. The history page chronicles the attention the mod garners. Like I said, a little bit more one on one, something tangible to the most distant fan would be more welcome.
That’s what hardcore followers of Star Wars: Knights of the force said. Bet the didn’t feel too hot when the found out it was a fake and the guy took all their money.
MAN, I LOVE THIS. Seriously, some day I’ll have downloaded and PLAYED BM all the way through, and then it’ll be…all…done.
Think about that.
Do you want to have a look at Daniel’s post too, champ? It does happen. All the time. The more specific they get, the more likely it is to happen.
People only overthink things because of how scarce updates on the forums are, “champ”
Seriously, what do they expect when they give out purposely cryptic messages? That people wont jump to conclusions? And then on top of that they use that as justification for no information at all.
And this is where it all falls apart. The next thing that happens is someone has to use foul or belittling words to downplay someone’s opinion. Calling people idiots and morons does nothing for the Dev’s rep or yours. In fact I guess it would lessen it. So for the sake of everyone involved, stop with the blatantly useless name calling.
they are a bit too cryptic that much is true
@vormaen: I agree, stop with the insults and trolling. This community is becoming more toxic everyday.
Because the people complaining about the mod taking too long are usually the ones that have no fucking clue what it takes to make even a simple game.
Also, most of the ‘old timers’ don’t hang around on these forums waiting for the mod, there’s a forum hidden to unregistered members which is basically an off-topic section.
Good one, if you have anything valid to contribute to the thread, please do. If not, move along sir.
I PM’d Hubi about the idea of wiki updates on the front page, if that’s implemented, I think that people who don’t check the wiki would start to realize just how much work is done on the mod, and how much the site is updated.
And what are people doing now? Countless threads of “what happened” and “oh, they have problems” etc. . If there’s nothing, people complain and interprete, if there’s something wrong and devs tell us, people complain and speculate or interprete as well. And the smart people just sit and wait.
I understand that all the speculations can be a problem, but in my opinion, it’s neither a reason for nor against updates. Yeah, i’ve read this explanation for the information policy numerous times, from devs and other community members alike, but it’s still not reasonable, at least to me.
On the other hand, if the devs don’t want to give quick updates, it’s their choice, no matter what they think speaks against it. We can complain, we can disagree or agree with them, but at the end of the day, we have to get along with it, because we are not the devs but just the guys that want a brilliant half life remake.
Don’t get me wrong, I still like this thread. I’m happy that this community stilll has smart guys that don’t take the dev’s actions and opinions as dogmatic as some here tend to do and can articulate their points without trolling, swearing or personally insulting other people. And I also do believe that for such an ambitious and massive project, motivation is a significant factor, and that is where the support of the community comes into play. Most of the devs might be self-motivated, but you can’t tell me that every devs ignores the community.
