An outsider's point of view on Black Mesa Release

What about all the people who don’t check the forums or the wiki? Can’t someone update the news section or the twitter and say ‘we’re alive, check the wiki, it’s updated frequently’? I’m not complaining about not getting updates for myself (I know where to look now), I’m just thinking about the folks who never get the chance because they never made it past the front page. I’m not really sure how it’s a good thing that those people are continually ‘turned away’ because they don’t see a real glimpse of life.

SHOCKER I know it’s their choice, but that argument only applies to “JUST GIVE ME THE RELEASE DATE” and “JUST DIE BCH” requests.

“I don’t work here. I’m just a consultant.”

Anyway… for those that have stuck around, there is plenty of information to be seen as it eeks out here and there from the dev team. We cant help it that some folks show up out of no where claiming nothing has been happening all this time.

You cant be bothered to stick around.
The devs cant be bothered to bring you up to speed.

EDIT:

The next official notice the public will see is the soundtrack being made available. This is the indicator that it is coming as in … it is coming within the next few weeks. Other than that, the team is not going to offer any more info. See my right sig for details on “but WHY!!!”

Maybe Hubi could put a little status thingy on the main page, stating that the mod is still active and being worked on. Make it fairly noticeable.

Perhaps that would stop the flood of newfags complaining about the lack of updates.

If you can get Hubi to do it, go for it.

He does owe me a few favors tho.

Well, not really.

I definitely like your take on things.
A very healthy way of life (especially if you’re nailed to a cross and don’t know when or if BM will be released, btw…)!

It would be better than nothing, and it would really help out people who don’t have the time of day; like me… I’m in the military enjoying my first weekend off since well before everyone else was starting to enjoy their winter vacation.

But I guess that also makes me a newfag as you put it so nicely.

Any additions that stop people complaining is welcome. I notice that Accursed Farms, home to Freeman’s mind has started doing just that.

I like to hold off the pain of waiting by viewing all the Freeman’s Mind episodes

So that is official?

That would be nice, not that the fanbase need it but to notify those who think it’s dead and perhaps stop the complaining. Maybe what catz said. ^

Something like:

“We’re working on the mod, we’re basically fixing and improving things. The next official notice the public will see is the soundtrack being made available. This is the indicator that it is coming as in … it is coming within the next few weeks.”

It’s basically what’s been said by devs on the forum and I think it’s at least worth a try. It’s not like it can be much worse than it is right now.
You may refer to the “cman2k formula” or that it won’t do any good. But actually, this time, I think it could.

Assuming that additions will stop people from complaining. History shows that it won’t.

Complainers gonna complain…

Basically my opinion on the matter.

If you can’t be bothered to go beyond “Hm. Nothing new on the front page, nothing has happened.” Then you really don’t deserve to know what’s new.

No media release? Check https://www.natedgreat3.com/blackmesa.asp please, you can see he put up some new animation video of black mesa.

Those videos are not new. In fact, I believe they’re all in the wiki.

What a pompous, condescending attitude. So typical of a lot of people on these forums.

I’m not going to pretend to be nice to people if they’re too damn lazy to go beyond the front page to see if anything new has happened, and then claim “LOLZ MOD IS DED” or “LOLZ MOD IS TROLL” or something similar to that.

Eddie, for the most part, new people dont come here to join in. The new people seem to only come to complain. It is old.

If I may, from a noob’s standpoint I am genuinely interested in this MOD as I have been a Half Life fan since the first game. I have stated before that somehow I have been living under a rock and didn’t hear about this mod until November, however I have spent an enormous amount of time reading everything I can about the mod on the wiki and in the forums to catch up and all of my questions so far have been answered. while looking I did notice the singular wit of the “old gaurd” forumites here and actually enjoy the stories I have read. I came to see a cool mod and I stay for the cool stories. So from my point at least, I am very greatful and extreamely appreciative of the hard work and dedication the devs have put into this mod. May your efforts be rewarded with not just the appreciation of some of us fanboys, but your own satisfaction that you created something that has your heart and soul infused in it.

(excuse me I must wipe the tears from my eyes, sniffle.) :stuck_out_tongue:

that made my day.

CTID, why should the public bend over backwards to find out what’s going on? When a front page and forum indicate stale information, there’s no reason for someone to move past it. Why can’t their be an obvious indication to people that the wiki is regularly updated up front and center, so that all the new forum members can stop registering to complain (only to find out the wiki has regular updates)? Everyone can say it’s all over the wiki, but how many sites have a similar ‘update cadence’ that allows habitual people to check their before anywhere else? Check the front page, check the forums, and then you have to look around to find out that the wiki is regularly updated. There are a lot of wikis out there in the world that aren’t.

For all the complaining be done in the forum about complete developer silence, I’d expect it’d reduce at least a part of those posts since it’s just not true. Complainers will always complain, but even at least some of those complainers would be satisified by knowing things are still moving forward is it not worth it to just tell people ONCE. (Check the wiki, updated ALL the time) 5 seconds later and the world of BM has dramatically improved for all those that still consider themselves fans of black mesa but not forum users.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
