Always bet on Duke

I hope my feelings on this turn of events are clear to everyone :expressionless:

Alright, since gearbox is actually going to release a game that has been in development for 13 years. All I can say is “always bet on Gearbox”

Once I heard the news… I couldn’t stop laughing.
It’s been in development for 12-13 years, the original dev team got fired for not doing anything, and within a few months of taking over the project, Gearbox already has a release date. As long as it doesn’t have Race X in it, I’ll be awesome.

Gearbox merely finished 3D Realm’s work, they even hired some of the former 3DR devs.

nvm

I think this maybe the game that prompts me to buy a 360 or PS3.
If I don’t end up buying a 360 or PS3, Like I said in a month old thread, “Chances are it will be on steam” and at some point it will be on sale.

Well I’m pretty sure the reports were saying Gearbox were planning to release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously.

Man I hope there’s some cool multiplayer. Or the single player campaign lasts for at least 20hours (not including collectables). It will be a massive let down if we have waited ages for a sequel that has a single player of less than 6 hours and even less playability.

this. Except the Race X part. I kinda liked them, even though they were generic. And also because it’s gonna contain none of that. It’s gonna contain pigmen. Oh, and the aliens we’ve seen like like the ones from DN3D. Just sayin’.

Gearbox ALWAYS spoil the party.

I will now use my superpowers to look into the future.
I see Duke Nukem being released
I see aged graphics and mediocre gameplay.
The voice acting and one-liners are the only good things about it.
Also tits.

FLAME SHIELD

The original is over-rated. By a lot. Almost as much as Doom.

DOOM is not overrated, it is god’s gift to man.

Yeah, but you bitch about nearly every good game and think the bad ones are good, so your opinion doesn´t count.

In 1996, any gamer with a pulse knew that both Duke3d and Doom were awesome and two of the best games of their time. You do not know what youre talking about.

No love for System Shock?

It’s really gonna happen!

A little note, according to ModDb, Duke Nukem Forever is utilizing the Id Tech 4 Engine.
Meaning, If your system Bluescreens when trying to play Doom III, You WON’T be playing Duke Nukem Forever.

I knew a gamer that talked me out of buying Duke. I have regretted it (and resented him) since.

Wonderful for the time, sucky for a time in which even MW games have better gameplay.

Also, did Half-Life really come out just 2 years later? Its just so much more advanced in almost every way.

It is pointless trying to compare Duke3d or Quake or Doom or Wolfenstein3D to any modern FPS (does MW = modern warfare?). Just because a historically popular game does not compete by today’s standards does not mean it is overrated. You sound like a young gamer who never got to experience first person shooters before the advent of Half Life, I pity you. I got to play every major FPS during their heyday (wolf3d, doom, quake, duke3d, HL, Deus Ex, etc.) and none of them are “overrated.” Each are unique and representative of the gaming technology available during the years each were developed. Notice how each game in that list is more advanced than the previous, things only got better as time went on. Nowadays, a new gamer has a plethora of choices and unless they choose to start with the original FPSs, they will never get to enjoy them for what they are.

Also, Half-Life (11/98 ) came out almost three years after Duke Nukem 3D (01/96). HL is definitely more advanced than Duke, but that is the result of being released almost 3 years later. If you are going to call Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, or Duke Nukem 3D overrated, than you should also consider Half Life overrated as well. Each of those games is near perfect when considering their place in time.

Really? In the other DNF thread it seemed like you were pretty familiar with Duke3d, when did you finally play it? I still remember unwrapping the unnecessarily giant box PC games used to come in on Christmas Morning when I was 11.
