Allow me to pose a problem to you.

Say I want to create a new weapon, but only have it be comprised of existing meshes and animations, yet exist as its own weapon? What I want is to have the .357 use the crowbar animations, use the .357 weapon select picture (But be placed in the melee slot), and be gripped by the barrel. So basically, no messing with new models or animations, I just want to change it so the player grips the .357 model (rotated so its by the barrel) instead of the crowbar. This seems fairly simple, and I was really hoping it could be done.

Basically, if you were wondering, the player comes across a gun that is empty, and uses it as a melee weapon/bashing tool instead of merely tossing it aside.

:frowning: too complex? Raminator mentioned something in a PM about decompiling both the .357 and crowbar and re-rigging them, but… I don’t know how to do that or what programs I would use. Anyone? The end result would be fucking awesome.

I seriously hope this is connected to the awesome map you’re making right now.

…because it’s a fucking awesome idea!

it is indeed. it’s part of an introductory puzzle, and will be the melee weapon for the whole thing. Cause I’m sick of seeing crowbars in every single mod people make.

not that I gave away the solution or anything. :fffuuu:

I am pleased and slightly aroused. I can hardly await the final result of your shenanigans.

Sadly, I can’t help you with the problem at hand :frowning:

This sounds awesome. Get people who know stuff in here now, I want to see this.

Better yet, have a puzzle that requires you to modify a crowbar to shoot bullets.

Sounds awesome, wish I could help.

With an 8X scope.

EDIT: FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! garthbartin!

well, uh… at least i have a lot of support. thanks, i guess? o.O

XSI mod tool I guess, if you want to do rigging.

De-compiling screws up everything…bones…smds…QC…you name it…

However you will find the source files in
…\Steam\steamapps…\sourcesdk_content\hl2\modelsrc\weapons…

Is there a tutorial I can follow for this sort of thing (other mods have custom weapons, they must have learned somehow too), so i don’t have to go rushing into this thing blind and potentially wrecking the game? haha

Will you find any bullets for it later on?

naturally. and the beauty of that is, I don’t need to do anything extra for that. it’ll just act like you’re using the gun youre already using as a melee weapon.

Could come in handy.

Well, what I’m thinking is, that it would sorta just be a remodel of the crowbar. Like that cowbar someone made they just stuck a model of a cowbar in place of the crowbar. So why not just instead of using the crowbar model, use the .357 one rotated and it would use everything else from the crowbar (animation, damage, sounds), just sort of a re-skin?

Or, considering my inexperience, this is way out of line and doesn’t make sense. :stuck_out_tongue:

It would make sense. It would also be significantly easier.

That is exactly what he’s trying to do :hmph:

yeah you just basically repeated my original post and posed it as your own suggestion :retard:
