Aliens : Colonial Marines

I just heard in an interview they talked with Ridley Scott to help them in building a game like the movies, and they also are working with the guy who made the environments in Aliens, as well as looking over some unused designs that never made it into the second movie.

This is seeming like the game I wanted AvP to be, and not that crap that Rebellion pulled. They didn’t even use good sounds from the Alien movies, and their own sounds were shit.

This is the game I have been most excited for on Earth of all time. I desperately want it to be badass, but I fear they’ll manage to fuck it up somehow. I just have to accept that it will never be as amazing as it is in my head.

Though I don’t doubt it’s potential, I wish there was deviation from the whole ‘space marine’ approach to sci-fi horror. The fact that it’s an extermination team will possibly take the mystery out of it.

I don’t think there would be a deviation from the space marine approach, from a game based off of the movie that popularized space marines which is considered by many to be one of the ones that does it right.

Even CoD references Aliens in it’s single player, as well as numerous other games having nothing to do with space or aliens.

PS its a rescue team not an extermination team.

Alien starred a horrified skinny cargo hauler in a jumpsuit. I personally prefer that approach.

wtf did they do to the sounds? The trailer was cool, but the guns sounded like shit in that demo. NOTHING like the movie.

another action game with monsters in it…

More like, another “highly scripted” action game with monsters in it

Most game trailers are highly scripted…

Edit: I should say most early gameplay trailers are highly scripted. And this is the first gameplay video.

Why the hell do the NPC’s pulse rifles sound like pulse rifles, but the player’s doesn’t? Not a sign of good game design, even for a work in progress.

That’s what I was thinking :frowning:

I hope they change that.

Why do you want the game the be the exact same as the movie? I for one got sick of the film’s M41A sounds years ago.
The ones they’ve made for this are powerful, and the shouts sound just enough like the film version to be called pulse rounds.

So lemme see, you think they should make new sounds for one of the most iconic weapons of all time just because you’ve heard the sounds so many times before?

Maybe they should make new Xeno sounds because they’ve kept the same ones for years too?

How about no. The people who want aliens games have an attachment to the PR because of it’s sound - which is what makes it stands out as something from the Alien’s universe. You take that away and you might as well use an M16. It’s the same as changing the beeping noise the motion tracker makes.

In fact the reveal trailer made me think this game was the first one to actually use the PR sounds right, instead of that one-pitch sound that all AvP games use. The AvP 2 PR was even worse, they tried to vary the sound but it just sounded like it was squeaking.

And i don’t see how those sounds sound powerful, they sound like they came from a generic soundbank - because they probably did.

Don’t be a purist mule.
Don’t fear change.
Don’t pay for the same ol’ shit if it doesn’t have a twist.

I wouldn’t confide in your hearing if i were you. You’re telling me you can’t hear that perfect little high-pitched smidge of vintage M41A burst in the new sound effect?
I fucking love the Alien universe. Doesn’t mean I have to be a whiner when it comes to modern additions to what, in the long run, is just a franchise.

These companies know that if they want my money, they’ll have to work for it by adding a satisfying amount of fresh, unrecycled content.
They also know that there’s armies of nostalgic drones that will buy any game called ALIEMs: CLoney Mariners

And you know what? I DO hope they make new Xeno sounds. The ones in Aliens are squeaky annoying shits anyway.
I hope they decide to add translucent carapaces to their heads and make them sound like George Clinton.

You’re right, I hope in Half Life 3 Gordon gets a sex change and they make Alyx a vortiguant /sarcasm

I for one agree with Bloodshot – changing iconic things in Aliens changes it from Aliens to something else.

If you want something different for your money, Ramirezoid, buy something different…?

Looks terrible;

Emotionless voice acting; too many cinematic events and controlled environments; boring combat; unbelievably choppy graphics; terrible sound design (Aliens barely making any sound; poor audio-ambiance); laughably horrendous pacing; not even remotely attempting horror from any vector; Cliche’ dialogue and events that are about as surprising and mature as a 3-D film for children.

What a way to ruin another franchise, Randy…

Sound aside, I am just glad this isn’t some rushed POS like movie games used to and most likely still are. Anybody remember independence day the game? No? how bout E.T the game? No? well maybe you can try a copy just look in the desert in Nevada somewhere there are tons you can have.

Comparing a game on X-box 360 to a game on Atari? Hmmm…

You make it sound like I’m trying to make an argument against you or offending the game when I’m not.

The only hostility I have toward anything in my last post is the companies that make POS movie games that get rushed out. I’m only comparing them to Aliens to say how glad I am that this game is different. That the game isn’t being rushed like other movie games.
