Alien Isolation

but the xeno is black huehuhue

I think it’s gonna be pretty good. I’m impressed by the gameplay I’ve seen so far. Might be the first time I’ve ever been interested in a survival horror game since I can’t stand that genre usually.

One could argue that roughly 50% of Half-Life is survival horror (i.e. the bits without the HECU)

Yeah, but it doesn’t feel like ALL survival horror, you know?

Half-Life feels way too fast-paced and actiony to be survival horror. Half-Life is a power trip while survival horror is meant to leave you feeling powerless.

Half Life is more a Sci-Fi horror versus Survival Horror, like what they said. I never felt powerless in Half Life 1, 2, or any of their relative episodes or expansions. Well, minus the ending of Ep 2 and in Blue Shift during the teleportation mishap. Even then, though, it wasn’t the same helplessness.

On topic: I wonder if this game is gonna really be as adaptable as they’re claiming it is. I mean, even a well done linear antagonist is fun. But if they manage to really pull off the hunted feeling…that’d be perfect.

Survival horror games never appealed to me because they always felt too manipulative and as if they were trying to force me and manipulate me into being scared rather than let the fear come from within myself and reacting naturally to the game. It’s a big pet peeve and I always end up feeling more irritated and pissed off than scared when playing survival horror games.

So I’m curious how I’m gonna react to Alien Isolation. For me it depends on how immersive the game is and how they handle the protagonist, since my main problem with a lot of survival horror games is that the protagonist does stuff that goes against what I would do just so the protagonist can be shown as “weak” or “powerless”. It creates a strong dissonance with the character for me.

The reason amnesia will never truly be good!
the notes and shit you find are read aloud by some dude you’re inhabiting.

instead of, say, resident evil, where it just pans out as it would if you stumbled across a piece of paper IRL. The creepiness is created in your very veins.

Yeah I HATED Amnesia. Like, seriously HATED it. Just not my cup of tea.

Resident Evil was pretty effective at at least making you feel like you were in control and inhabiting your character. Although the cheesy voice acting does throw me off a bit nowadays and makes it hard to take it seriously.

For me Amnesia was a game doing A LOT of things right that AAAs were doing wrong but made some really amateur mistakes. The monster’s AI was really predictable/scripted and shite.

I think I’m just not into horror games.

even Dead Space, fun as it is, relies too much on OOGA BOOGA audio fx, at least for the necromorphs.

But the ambient noises you hear in the first game?
u n s u r p a s s a b l e.

I found Dead Space to be more of an action game personally.

The ambient sounds are o u t s t a n d i n g !
