… and the Alien disappears for a couple of levels, in which you do a lot of backtracking, performing the same boring repetitive tasks in order to proceed, all the while fighting numerous androids/robots. Several reviewers comment that there’s too much of this and that it feels like filler material to artificially extend the game’s length, negatively impacting on gameplay enjoyment.
Meh, no game is perfect.
…While other reviewers compliment the change of pace and gameplay that these sections provide while being used as tension building.
Some people cite Alien as being a boring movie up until shit goes down, I’d imagine it’s pretty much the same case here, if you go in expecting things to happen constantly or aren’t one to soak up atmosphere or be interested in world building it’s probably gonna hurt your enjoyment.
On top of that, those several reviewers that point those out are sites I usually end up in disagreement with anyway, and the sites I trust more are citing these things as positives.
This really seems like a case of “not appealing to everybody” more than anything else.
Yea most reviews seem positive but the negative ones seem to hit on the same things. Atmosphere is really the most important thing for me in a first person game like this so I still think I want to pick it up. And if it does well maybe they will make a sequel that makes up for any of these shortcomings.
I find it interesting that with this game some of the things that get the highest praise in some reviews are the exact same things that break the game for other reviewers.
It’s out now
I’m gonna wait and buy it on-the-cheap.
Besides, it’ll give the studio time to hopefully patch/tune their “highly touted” AI (mentioned as a problem by reviewers) and other feedback/problems that are sure to surface once the public at large gets their hands on it.
“What’s this . . . sticky . . . . . clear . . . . gooey . . stuff? . . . . . . . Yyyyech !”
I hope you aren’t talking about the alien, because that works pretty much exactly as intended and probably won’t be changing. I haven’t really heard any problems mentioned by reviewers or people who played the game, except from gamespot and (mostly) ign who cited it as frustrating while at the same time not bothering to turn down the difficulty from hard(which does change its sensitivity)
Unless you are talking about the human AI, which seems to be hit or miss depending on the situation.
This game is freakin stressful. :fffuuu:
Interestingly though, all of the life-stress drama that I’ve been going through is pretty much shedding off with the introduction of this new, ridiculously high adrenaline stress. Oddly therapeutic. :what:
I’m loving it.
It’s clear a lot of love for the film went into this game where it counts, and on top of that the graphics look like a CG movie at times, which only adds to the atmosphere on top of how in-line the style is with the film.
Just started playing, about an hour in. There’s something off about the character design, I think the lipsyncing is really good, except it doesn’t seem to go past the lips. The rest of the face feels very stiff by comparison. That said, everything else is going pretty well so far. Still haven’t gotten into any serious gameplay yet, we’ll see how thing go when I get there.
Would I get anything out of this game if I’ve never seen any Alien films?
Half of the references would be lost on you, I guess.
Wouldn’t hurt to watch the movies anyway.
Alien: Isolation Oculus Rift support enabled with a couple of .ini changes:

:what:
You probably would, It stands pretty well as a horror game on its own but the entire thing is just one big well designed slice of fan service pie so you’d be missing a lot.
You could just watch alien beforehand, i mean, it is a great movie.
Get your fucking shit together.
Actually kenny, you really should get this game and THEN watch alien, cause I would personally love to be able to play this without any prior contact with the alien series, I think it would be amazing.
After that though as Xalener said, get your shit together. You don’t just NOT watch Alien, come on man.
