Lets say there were portals open to xen when the explosion went off, would the explosion carry through the portal and damage xen?
Surely it would?
All portals to Xen collapsed when Gordon killed the Nihilanth. And as far as I understood most portals were one-way-portals to the earth, you only enter two portals to Xen in the game:
- At the resonance cascade you see the Vortigaunts.
- At Lambda Core, where they scientist had to open it.
What if BM was nuked before Gordon killed the Nihilanth?? Although i agree, most portals could have been one way.
Either way it doesn’t matter at all since Xen is totally out of the picture now…
The creatures found on xen didn’t belong there anyway, they were left there by the combine.

but in opposing force, you can see freeman enter xen half-way through the game. by the time nilianth was destroyed shepard wouldn’t even know about the bomb.
