…how do you know how each monster is called? Has Valve released some kind of manual explaining each creature or you’ve studied the game’s scrips/models and seen that by yourself?
It’s in the game files.
Yeah, the game files have the names, as do many other sources such as strategy guides and timelines.
If you listen carefully you can hear them say the names all the time, like Pokemons
also spawn cheat codes reveal so many names
Kinda funny though that it was only in HL2 that all the creatures were given official (i.e, spoken) names. In HL it was just like “Hey, that thing with green lightning coming out of its hands wants you dead. So does that squid-like thing that looks like a bull”. (what?)
if someone told me that there was a squid-like thing that looks like a bull that wanted to kill me i would probably curl up into a small bundle and laugh maniacally until i was eaten by it.
Honestly, when I played I gave them names on what they looked like to me. I got most of them right. Like Headcrab, gargantua, Zombie, houndeyes, Bullsquid, Barnicle. But theres those that I was completely off. I called Vortigaunts, Zappers. Alien Controllers braniacs, Alient grunts were just plain soldiers. So yeah… No rhyme or reason just names.
that remembers me what I called those aliens before knowing cheat spawn codes. Even after knowing the cheat spawn codes one was not correct: to spawn a bullsquid in hl you must call it by it’s old name: Bullchicken! Nah, seriously for don’t calling him bullchickend I just called it f*cking acid bastard.
Naming the enemies is half the fun.
Headcrabs are easy, so are Zombies. Houndeyes…Medium, as are bullsquids, barnacles, and gargs. The others are harder. Alien Grunts are alien grunts just because the HECU are human grunts.
did you say that the gargs are MEDIUM? :hmph:
Not in size. It’s relatively easy to call something gargantuan a gargantua.
When I first played Half Life I was about 5 or so I believe so I gave them weird names like headcrabs were spider things and barnacles were the things with long tongues and vortigaunts were the shock things, all sorts of weird things.
I’m confused… I did just read the word thing/things so many times… O_o
i remember calling vortigaunts those shocky things and houndeyes those sonic motherfuckers
that reminds me, i called everything a motherfucker, separating each species with a prefix of “this”, “that”, “those”, etc.
example: “those motherfuckers” referred to a pack of houndeyes
thats how i learned english
:awesome:
Yeah I was confusing myself typing that, But you cant blame me though
Sampdel, I know what you mean. I would think of the description of them not their actual names. Like electric shooting monsters for the vortiguants.
