Woah there captain easypants, get a few hundred posts over several years and then repeat that statement and see how you feel about folks who fail to use the search function
Oh, that’s a marvelous idea. That would never lead one to believe that devs are ignoring their fans.
The devs are in a DIYDDIYD situation. So, us fans try to speak for them and we get shit on, too. Because people are unwilling to even do a microscopic amount of research.
So, I’m sorry if you’re feeling frustrated. Trust me, it’s mutual. :hmph:
“When will the mod be done?”
“When it’s done.”
“But do you have a ballpark figure?”
“When it’s done.”
“Can we get an ETA?”
“When it’s done.”
“What is the completion percentage?”
“Look. Your question has been answered a hundred times already. Just look.”
“How rude.”
To be honest I don’t think there’s much of a purpose for these forums until the mod is released. All there seems to be is people flaming the dev team for failing to meet yet another target, tired, dead memes being further driven into the ground, or just plain awful posting.
Imho the devs should shut the place down until the mod is released and just be open and frequent when it comes to status updates, instead of worrying about upsetting people. i.e. as soon as it becomes obvious that an area needs lots more work, say then and there that the mod will likely take more time instead of pretending everything is peachy until the last minute.
[color=Green]>Implying this forum is just about discussing the mod
They missed one. One. Just one. And you wonder why some people around here get ticked off at people whining?
I’m pretty sure the mod is too far along to accommodate any relevant content creation contests or suggestions if that’s what you were implying.
If you’re talking about off topic chat, it’s pretty much irrelevant to be honest. Anything worth being said about half-life has been said and the off topic chat is by a huge margin total waffle. I suppose they could keep it open but it’d be pretty bizzare having a black mesa forum which’s only forum is an off topic section filled with the same crap you’d find in places like the gamefaqs forums.
I’m pretty sure that’s 2 champ, the 2007 target of which an interview quote was dredged up somewhere else on the forums, and the 2009 target. I’m not complaining, I’m just expecting it to happen again in the future, and as long as the forums are still here, folk will bitch and get all upset again.
Of course the whole thing is irrelevent if the devs aren’t really influenced or bothered by what the forum goers think, but I imagine it impacts on them in some way getting all this negative feedback.
Yeah, that’s the point. It seems more like these forums have nothing to do with the mod anymore, except so that the regulars can flame noobs. So, sorry I brought it up, mm-kay? buh-bye
…was given before they had many of the roles even filled. That wasn’t a promise. That wasn’t a release date. That wasn’t a target. It was a guesstimate. They didn’t “miss the 2007 release date”.
Yes, the mod is taking a long time (they’re remaking the entire friggin’ Half-Life game!). Yes, you probably think the forums are completely useless (and someone is holding a gun to your head forcing you to come here?). Yes, they missed the 2009 release date. But they owe you nothing. You aren’t paying them a single dime. In fact, they’re paying YOU. They’re taking their precious time FOR YEARS to make a FREE mod FOR YOU.
Jeejy-peejy…
They did miss the 2009 release date though.
Well I can see you chose to completely ignore or misunderstand my actual points and jumped straight to “They don’t like, owe you anything maan!” and “If you don’t like it, you don’t HAVE to come here” in an effort to paint me as an entitled whiner, which sort of isn’t the case at all?
I’m saying the forums have outlived their usefulness and if anything they are a detrimental effect on team morale, and certainly aren’t coming up with anything of value as of late. Take a gander at the massive amount of locked threads and shit-tier posting going on at this point if you need proof of this.
Once again:
- Close the suggestion forum. No point whatsoever to make people believe they should suggest anything.
- Disable ability to create new threads for users (maybe leave it for those who have over 100 posts).
- Delete majority of threads, leaving only “News”, “Questions” and “Off-topic”. This way, whoever wants to ask about the progress, has to go to one of these.
New suggestion (lol): Make SEARCH always visible at a prominent place, don’t hide it under a poorly placed menu option. Give it yellow background, 10 inch x 2 inch space at the top-center, above the forums listing.
I bet you that people will still troll in here and do little to no research before asking.
Okay, I see a theme here:
Forums are useless. Close 'em.
Sorry, I don’t see a need for that. Just don’t come here.
Black Mesa forums used to be even more of a mess, back when we had users from a general gaming forum populating most of the site.
Hmm, sounds like a good idea, seeing as how there’s nothing worthwhile here. Have fun.
Bye Bye easypants. Don’t let the gumbo hit your ass on the way out
Wtf is all this about the forum’s uselessness? Does everything in life have to be useful? Then why are you looking forward to a mod? And it’s not like a forum is supposed to be useful or anything.
Most of the regulars have fun on this forum. That’s all it needs to be, as long as the devs feel the webspace etc. it takes up is worth their money.
Becoming a new member in 2010 seems to follow three steps:
-
Create a new topic enquiring as to the progress of the mod and/or lack of release (politeness is optional)
-
Adopt an extremely defensive style when anyone counters your questions with any form of rational thought
-
Act as if you have been a part of the forums for years, declaring that it is ‘worthless’ then leave forever (until the mod is released, of course)
Some people really do think that if it isnt important to them, then it isnt important to anyone. For those that think the forum is useless… you are free to think what you will. But you are free to not come to this corner of the internet.
I cant think of a whole bunch of other areas of the internet that are much more useless than this one… so as long as someone wants to come here to check in once in a while, we choose to be here to say “hai” and “not done yet”.
These forums and this mod are both useful. They both show the power of what connected gamers can achieve. A full scale remake of a classic (in the case of the mod) and an interactive community that discusses topics of every kind and colour and shares it’s knowledge despite the fact that the utter most of its members have never met face to face (in the case of the forum).
So, no, this stuff isn’t useless.
