$715 build, how can I lower the price without sacrificing too much performance?

THIS HAS BEEN EDITED, PLEASE POINT OUT PROBLEMS I MAY HAVE MISSED IF YOU SEE THEM

CASE : Silverstone precision series PS05 “mid tower” ($50)

MOTHERBOARD : BIOSTAR A770E3 ($60) — I THINK this’ll work with my hardware, if someone wants to check it that’d be great

GPU : Radeon HD 5770 - ($135) - but I might go with a GTX 460, it’s the same price on newegg.

CPU : AMD Phenom II x4 (quad core) 940 ($120)

RAM : 4Gb 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM (DDR3 1333) ($50)

HARD DRIVE : Hitachi HDS721050CLS362 - 530 Gb ($50)

PSU : APEVIA AS520W - BK (520W) ($60)

OS : Windows 7

EDIT: With the current specs I have it now cost approx. $625, I’m thinking this’ll be a good price for me!

I would suggest a better card if you are going to use it for gaming.

^That

Look for a 5770. The mobo can be a little cheaper one and, honestly, you don’t really need 4gb ram, 2 is enough, but some may argue over this.

<snippity snoopity, prolly getting the GTS 450>

wait for the new year

Unless your country is raising the VAT like mine. :fffuuu:

Maybe a 5830, they are getting cheaper… very fast

$ means US.

If I wanted an advice on this forum I’d use $ as well.

The GTS 450 looks about the same spec-wise, and it’s about $50 cheaper, so I might stick with that.

Shoplift some of the parts locally, that tends to cut back on those nasty prices.

The link is my old computer selling for $380 W/O Windows
That’s the price of the computer I am Selling.

I would suggest to look for a used computer, if your price range is at $600 below. you wont find a rig for that price that will last a year if you play games.

Other suggestion if you going AMD get AtI Graphics card.

I would suggest not getting a bioware mobo. 50% chance it will be d.o.a.

BioWARE or bioSTAR?

Oh hey, didn’t know why I didn’t see this before, now that I’ve brought down the price, I can go ahead and get a 5770!

Well, that’s rubbish. Dozens of countries use the dollar sign for their currency.

I’m pointing out a problem - with the rest of your hardware (quad-core CPU, pretty decent GPU and Windows 7) 2GB of RAM is going to be a HUGE handicap. Like, you might as well forgo buying a harddrive and spend the money on the RAM instead. 4GB is the absolute minimum any personal computer should have these days, and that’s just for everyday use, nevermind gaming/video editing/etc.

$.02

Yeah, I just found some good Ram that’s not much more expensive than the 2 gigs I have listed, so I’m gonna go with 4 Gb.
