32 or 64 bit win7?

i recently bought a 2nd hardrive and on it i will instal windows7
(the other drive still has a vista instaltion that id like to keep as i dont want to loose my files)

but after some reseach i found out that my pc has AMD x64 core’s they can run both 32 and 64 bit content, sofar i always had a 32 bit windows vista

so i am now in the opertunity to instal windows 7 64 bit but i wonder does it realy help ?
i know that whit the bits it is posable to adress more RAM but i only have 3 gig ram in my pc, witch makes me wonder if instal 64 id still only have 3gig so it wont benefit or would it ?

so is it worth it installing a 64 bit os on a pc that only has 3gig of ram ? or should i upgrade my ram past the 3gig before it gets better ?

I would say 64 bit as it’s generally quicker. 3gb is more than enough memory for most users even with a 64bit operating system.

Unless you have some 64bit OS incompatible apps that you can’t live without there is no reason not to go for 64bit Win7.

oke i though it would not make a difference to be able to adress ram past 4 gb when there is only 3gb inside :stuck_out_tongue:

i have had no end of trouble with win7 64bit due to programs not installing, some problems with games and that drivers have to be signed by microsoft, you can work around this, but still annoying, stick to 32bit, i wish i had, im gonna install 32bit as soon as ive backed up files. dont have to listen to my opinion, just google the problems people have had

Yeah, Windows 7 64 bit all the way, you won’t look back.

64 bit is generally slower. At a minimum of 8gb it gets a little bit faster.

Yeah there is no discussion here. Go with 64bit or nothing

What statistics are you basing that on exactly?

A test I’ve read 2 years ago on Toms Hardware Guide. Also, 64 bit os uses more memory on harddisk and ram. But I would still recommend 64 bit os. You can’t really feel the difference between 32 bit and 8gb of ddr3 ram only costs you 60€ to 80€ so I would go for it.

I was kind of hoping for a link.

2 years is a long time in the world of computers and as for the 64bit taking more space well the difference is really kinda negligible considering how cheap hard drives are today

You can always go for good ol’ XP. Shit’s lightning fast on older hardware.

go for 7 64bit, if you had 2gb of ram I would say go for XP 32bit, if you have any old software to install, download virtualBox and install XP in there.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 (Dutch) here, with:

  • Office 2010 Pro Plus (64-bit)
  • Paint.net (64-bit)
  • Winrar (64-bit)

I call bullshit, but I have 8 GB anyway so I don’t care.

The biggest noticeable difference is the memory cap of windows 7 32-bit. 32-bit won’t recognize any amount of memory higher than 3-3.5 gb (same thing vista did). if you’re running more than that, use 64-bit.

Yup, got Win 7 32 bit, and it only detects 3GB out of my 4… soon I’ll switch for a Win 7 64bit.

I don’t call bullshit, I’m well aware that may be true…the point is that the article is 2 years old.

I’m running 64bit, I’d suggest it.

Use 64-bit. I used to use 32, I went very slow compared to 64.
