2011 Game of the Year predictions

So this year is finally coming to an end and it has been an awesome one for video games. So many amazing games have come out and I haven’t had a life for the entire year.

Now that all the big releases are finally out or about to come out, what games do you guys think are GOTY worthy, and what game do you want to win?

IMO, the best games of the year were without a doubt Skyrim, Portal 2, The Witcher 2, Arkham City, Skyward Sword, Deus Ex, and Battlefield 3.

I can’t really say anything about games like Uncharted or Gears of War 3 because I haven’t played them.

Out of all those games, I think Skyrim is going to and should win GOTY, but if Skyrim didn’t win, I’d be happy if the Witcher or Portal 2 did.

Any other predictions for GOTY winners? What were your favorite games and why?

The game of the year out of the ones that I’ve played is Battlefield 3 but I think Skyrim probably deserves it overall, even though I haven’t played it yet.

Skyrim will win hands down. Close runner ups are Deus Ex, Gotham City, Witcher 2 and Uncharted 3. BF3 will win the multiplayer game of the year award.

Portal 2 was by far my favourite (need I say why? :stuck_out_tongue: ) and to be frank I’m not at all bothered with who wins. I wasn’t particularly taken with Battlefield 3, and I think the PC boycott/Origin brouhaha would probably ruin its chances anyway.

Portal 2 wasn’t that great, especially not the SP campaign. It was mostly “you can’t shoot portals anywhere else then where you supposed to”. I haven’t played skyrim but I will say it win by far.

Except Portal 2 didn’t “suck” by a long shot- its overall ratings are better than Skyrim’s anywho. Skyrim is better though.

Arkham City. Then again I have yet to play Skyrim so my opinion is invalid.

Well I’ve bought it this last autumn steam sale and wasn’t worth then ten bucks I’ve put in it. Not funny, loading screens every 2 min like an old early 90’s games and not as pretty as expected (same as L4D2). Got bored pretty fast which is kinda rare.

On the other hand I’ve bought Skyrim out of curiosity, never been fan of RPG games and never played its ancestors. 30€ and 60+ hours and I’m still at the beginning of the main quest. Damn that game is huge :awesome:

Portal 2 was just as funny as Portal 1 so you must not have thought that was funny either.

Skyrim will sweep the awards. Deus Ex and Portal 2 were also awesome. Haven’t played Dark Souls, Batman or the Witcher 2 (yet).

Uncharted 3 is kind of a mess, and I think it will be remembered as a huge disappointment despite getting insanely high review scores. I’d be very surprised if it got any GOTY nods.

Skyrim, no doubt. Despite it’s problems, it’s another fantastic Elder Scrolls game…and when was the last time one of those WASN’T GOTY?

glad to see others condemning Portal two, that game should never have been made. Portal was perfect, 2 was just your typical bloated high budget sequel, Hollywood style, all it did was tarnish the Portal name

Portal 2 was way more subtle
